Call to all you graphics modders - the u.ltimate challenge, a fantasy modpack

ive been looking on this project with great interest!! is looking like a really great mod graeme the mad!! ... i have a little sugesstion .. there are 5 culture areas ... and if u made each one of them a great race of the world .... then u could have a few dwarf tribes, elf tribes, humies, goblin? ork? ... anywho .... happy modmakin :)

Okay people :goodjob:

I cna see this is actually coming a;long so ill describe whayt im doing to address darksheers question about civ specific colour- I would like mosst units to have this because at least 2 races will be able to build them - ie human warriors can be built by normal humans and by the desert peoples (names not my strong point at the moment

Here are the basic descriptions of the civs and ages

Dark age will be similair to ancient age and most races will get basic warriors, swordsmen, catapults, horsemen and archers with witchees and sorcerors appearing at the end of the age. However some races will be in their prime at this time using fast moving units (goblins and fairies)

2nd age is that of rune magic - powerful beast units appear such as lycanthropes, chaneglings, golemns, unicorns, griffins, and the non-maghic racdes will receive strong swordmen. Also first air ttransport appears - pegasus. At the ned of the age the zombie and gunpowder appear. (this age will be the strength of the dwarfs, the stygians and the buteos)

3rd age is the age of animation spells, staple unit will be the skeleton and steam power will appear. Skeletons and wights will be the main units as well as elementals and sea serpents and the elves will have a tree guard. Humanoid races will progress in gunpowder and this period will be the prime of the merfolk, fallen ones and the elves

4th age is the age of summoning - powerful speels (nukes appear) and the kraken, dragons, frost giants, wyvern's, titans and other powerful creatures will appear - the humans will be in their prime here.

The 13 civs are at the minute

Humans

Elves (light)

Elves (dark) - somewhere I have names for the two differnet types of elf, one tolkeins and one from celtic mythology)

The fallen ones (dont like the name but think the nine as a whole race)

Dwarfs (2 civs)

Buteos

Beast speakers (a human race who develop lycanthropy in the rune age)

Desert tribes (likewise - i need a name to distinguish them, they will be able to build sandworms, golemns, djin that humans cannot build , obviously 'humans will ahve some advantage over them - suggestions welcome)

Goblins (includes trolls at the minute)

Stygians

Merefolk

Fairies

Lizard people (name anybody?)

Any suggestions for the remaining 3?

Now i knwo you people have got loads of gret untis but will what i suggest be too much - it will be a big project
I have tried in my design to base it not too much on any fantasty novel but on my own ideas from all the novels i have read (hence the guns and steam power which are present in some fantasy but go further because of high maghics).
Comments are welcome

If one of those civs is into Dark Magic (I don't know what half of those things are) in the age of summoning, they should be able to build Manticores - huge lion bodied, scorpion tailed, ugly headed, tusked, bat winged monsters. It looks like you'll have a great mod, Graeme the Mad when its finished.

Ah, everything seems to be flowing nicely. :)

As to the Civ color, I believe they can be done for most of the units. Anything that wear something or even just holding a shield (example: skeleton warrior with a shield where the shield can have Civ color) can have some Civ color.

Now, my question is this: on things summoned such as the 4 elementals (Air,Water,Fire & Earth), should they also have Civ color? I mean, a Fire Elemental is mainly a human shape ball of flame. So how would one expect to see Civ color on something like this? Any idea on this will be appreciated. :king:

Ah tricky dark sheer,

Possibly a shadow under the fire/water ball? - i know its not an ideal solution but it may be a start.

YEs mongoloid - manticores, plain forgotten about them, ta

I will post them as i make them, again they're not civ units, just animations from Age of Wonders, it's up to the Great Unit Makers (like Dark Sheer and some others) to convert them to civ units.
BTW i just realized that the animations in AoW just have six animations (i can't seeem to extract the last two), so... should i keep extracting he good ones or i should stop and look anywhere else...

This is the animation for water elemental

This is great!! - I dont think ill be able to use all the units though
Thanks very much everybody. I should have a first draft of an interactive tech tree available in a coupla hours (all units in)
Not being a d and d man I have to ask - what is a cleric?

Cleric is sort of like a priest which can cast healing spells and also spells that turn undeads. I am not sure if this can be done in Civ3 though.

As to the unit gif, keep posting them and don't worry about the 6 directions. The last 2 shouldn't be that hard to do ;)

This is a good one...

Dark Sheer is correct on what I meant by Cleric. I also don't think that they are possible to make with the current Civ3 rules, but if possible they would be great to have (low attack, medium defense, normal move, special ability: heal damaged unit). Obviously they don't have any D&D players on the Civ3 development team, or that ability would have been in there. :_)

Okay, so a coupla hours for the whole tech tree was a bit ambitious.
However I have completed the design for the first age, units, buildings, the tech tree.

I have to go to be real soon (get up in 5 hours and parents on my back) but I do n ot now think that if this mod ever gets made I can claim to have done even 1% of the work - you graphics guys are looking good. Only problem is I have now realised exactly how much I want and its a lot
So here's the list of units for the first age as it stands (if you want ill give you stats but these are now units im almost 100% sure ill need graphics for)

Orc Warrior
Goblin Warrior
Gnome
Reaper
Warrior
Flying Warrior (man with wings) (air)
Dwarf Axe man
Lizard-man warrior
Mereman warrior (doesn’t have tail – if you’ve played ToT you’ll know what I mean – its basically a green man with a trident)
Spearman
Dwarfish Spear man (or some kind of defensive dwarf unit)
Spear Lizard-man
Fairy Dust – (Missile unit, will not require civ specific colour) (air)
Swordsman
Dwarf Swordsman
Goblin Swordsman
Orc Swordsman
Triton’s Legion (one again nice to have played ToT which is where im getting the ideas for this race from, mereman with trident and cape – I do NOT want it standing on a ray)
Winged Guard (Men with wings – they just have to be different from the warriors) (air)
Archer
Orc Archer
Elvish Archer
Lizard Archer
Goblin Archer
Pixie (ground unit)
Dark Legion (Ian evil looking soldier but basically human shaped – not a cloak)
Wandering Soul (wont attack)
Ghost (air)
Fairy (air)
Kelpie (sea)
Spirit Boat (sea)
Horseman
Elvish Rider (horseman)
Fairy Horse
Goblin Horseman
Dark Rider (cloaked rider – the nine for all those who have seen LOTR)
Witch (air)
Djin (air)
Druid
Catapult
Dwarf catapult
Rock thrower (a not very powerful catapult used by the less mechanical races)
Great Orc (big orc)
Frostling (like a goblin but icy)
Basilisk
Ghoul – (incarnate)
Sorcerour (air)
Sea Witch (air)
Flying Shaman (air)
Boggart
Galley

and thats only the first age    :crazyeyes
NOTE: all the units are gorund unless specified (dont know whether that makes a difference to you guys)
Not all of them will require civ specific colours - if u want to know which ill telll you.
