Calling all CE enthusiasts

That would be nice, but I doubt it's viable with a few of us already finished and several not being heard from.
I've been very busy lately, i can post 1 ad save and 1000 ad save but i don't have time to tell what happened until tomorrow. Actually i've played this game to the end some time ago.

@Futurehermit, till what checkpoint should we update our games?

I don't think there's any schedule as this is just for fun. I believe the checkpoints were 2000BC, 1000BC, 1AD, 500AD, 1000AD, 1500AD, victory. Feel free to post any and all checkpoints. I enjoy checking out the saves and screenshots are nice as well :)

Ok, I'll give all the checkpoints tomorrow and i'll write a general summary of how the game went. i had a lot of fun playing it.

Here's an update till 1 AD, finding out about screenshots and the upload system here took me some time so the other updates have to come later. this is the first time i use screenshots in a post of mine here ,any comments on how i can improve them are very welcome.

Recap: i had built 4 cottages 2000 bc, this was enough for good early research, 1000 bc i got alphabet which is a fairly normal time to get this tech. In this game i could have had it very early but i didn't dare to delay IW with no copper/horses.

Since i wanted to keep working the cottages in the capital and my 2 other cities had their hands full building swords and the occasional (counter) axe i refrained from putting 2 scientists to work. This made getting the GL extra important, 350 bc it was chopped.

One turn later it was time to declare on Roosevelt, i don't have a huge stack as yet but Roosevelt only had 2 archers in New York(it has 50% defence bonus though).I'll keep building units in 3 cities now to reinforce the attack.

This went well, i took out New york and Boston, Washington is a bit more of a problem as you can see, i need cats for this.

Note that i'm researching currency, i wouldn't do this on emperor or immortal, on monarch it just takes the AI's too long to research crucial techs like currency for you so you have to do it yourself. I don't have COL yet, slow AI's also slow your research, iirc i even had to research math myself.

I do have construction, Heroic epic is 2 turns from finishing. After this is finished i'll get 1 cat/turn from Upsala to take out Washington. Idea for the next 1000 years is to win the lib race and get Mil tradition as the free tech.

I have never done much with cavs in any game of mine so i want to see if a cav rush works out.

Here's the 1ad save.

I fought a skirmish with Ghandi to grab his two jungle cities. He had too many archers defending his capital, so I'm going to come back with berserkers to finish him off. In the meantime I'm repositioning my troops to grab some American border cities.

My research order was Calendar, Monarchy, Constuction, Code of Laws, Civil Service.

I noticed Roosevelt had a great prophet, so I traded him Monotheism to help him pop Theology. Catherine is up to Friendly already.

My capital is developing nicely.

Well played, early calender payed off. I also see you haven't build the GL so you could keep on working cottages in the capital (instead of mines as in my game). In which city did you run the scientists for the academy?

Lol - I've been somewhat delayed playing any further in this CE challenge, since I upgraded pretty much everything internal in my PC over the last days, including swapping XP with Vista. I had no idea that the graphics of CivIV would change slightly after installing a 8800GTS card, but they did - to the better. :D

The last hitch is figuring out if my new power supply unit is faulty - sometimes the diskdrives or/and the fans won't start up when I turn the computer on, so im very suspicious about the PSU. Besides that, my savefiles are tranferred and CivIV+Warlords reinstalled, so I'll get to it over the weekend. Last I remember, I was ready to make Roosevelt bleed, still in the BC's.

Good read sofar - @DaveMcW - interesting move, going for Indian cities first. I gather Russia might be a problem in my game. I better get to my UU and cat/trebs before Catherine gets knight or Cossacks, but that should be doable...

I started a comparison of my own CE and FE styles. The results are quite interesting. I'm going to post an in-depth analysis; in the meantime enjoy some eyecandy from my CE game:

OK - reached 1AD

Early war with Rossy in full progress. My stack of axes and swords just captured Washington (after NY), so I'll take 2-3 more cities (Boston and the city to the N of Washington) before I'll settle for peace. Good news is that Washington has Pyramids which means that I can take care of my happiness issues with HR for a while. :)

Going to build scouts and send them south. I plan to use NY or the American city below it as the spearhead when I strike at Russia, which is still the plan after peace with the Americans and beefing up military. The strategy is to take the capital and core cities if they are close to us and afterwards beef up towards a strike against India's core cities. I should have beserkers+trebs when Ghandi gets himself a visit, not so sure I'll have the techs when I absolutely need to strike at Russia.

Tech-wise I'm going for CoL, CS and Machinery as soon as possible. Sadly, I think the Great Library is a no-go - I'm to late for it unless I get Litature from Rossy when negotiating peace.

so is this thread just going to die now? I was wanting to see how dave's game turned out

Uber, very nice write up, thanks!!! I was wondering if you could provide a few more details on your post-wartime space approach?

I would also like to see how Dave's game compares if he finishes :D

You're welcome to finish my game yourself. I have been laying the foundation for both a domination and a spaceship win, but I don't have time to play out both of them.

I'd like to see you play out the spaceship win. I remember you pulling off a very nice time in our SE-CE comparison awhile back and am interested to see what time you can pull off here :D

I think I will pick up one of your later saves though and see what I can do with the inherited empire.

I won domination victory in 1888 after i cav rushed Cathy + 1100 ad, cannoned Ghandi +/- 1500 bc and concluded against Brennus somewhere in the 1800's , it was a fun game, i didn't play it very well i think but it was one of my highest scoring games. Apparently domination games on monarch give you better scores than space wins on immortal which doesn't seem right to me.

Personally i think that generally a domination win is about one level more difficult than space (at least for my general playing style and also depending on the map and the other AIs), so IMO immortal space win should equal emperor domination and so on.
