Can civ 3 last for ever? I was just playing a normal game (im a total n00b) and it told me the game was going to end in 2010 or something like that, when I was just in the drift of things. Is there an option that lets you play forever?

I believe that the game stops counting points after around 2020 i believe, but allows you to keep playing. I'm pretty sure its that way in Civ3 and i'm positive it was that way in Civ2

Welcome to CFC garric!

This is from the FAQ thread:

'Is there a turn limit on the game, regardless of what victory conditions you chose?
Is there any way to change the year the game ends?

Unmodded Games will always stop recording score at 2050, no matter what type of game you are playing, but you can still continue playing after that.

In PTW, you can set the number of turns in the editor: 1000 is max. Alternatively you can set a playing time after which the game ends.'

The link to the FAQ and newbie thread are in my signature. The first gives you lot of info on civ3. The second gives you the opportumity to ask basic questions and get answers quickly...

once you hit 2000AD,it semms to take forever toreach2050, and normally when im going for a modern conquest (i love those MA SoD's!) and i can completly whipe out the world easily inside the score limit.

Farting Bob is right, when you hit the modern age, usually it takes hours or days to get to 2050. I have never played a game until mandatory retirement. I think my longest game ended 2010.

And welcome to CFC!!! [party]

My first victory was histograph in 2050. It's just 1 year per turn from 1950 to 2050.

Only once has any of my games lasted to 2050, i usually win or am wiped out by the 1800's, in which i already have Jet Fighters and Bombers and Nuclear Submarines, where in reality we had just discovered electricity.....

In direct answer to the question, the game ends at 2050, or when there is a victory condition met. HOWEVER, you can elect to play on from there indefinitely, but there will be no score recorded. So there is a definite ending so we can grade ourselves against other players, against previous times we've played the game, and it also factors in difficulty level. But you can play forever if you want (and if you live forever lol)

Yeah. . .ask HBDragon88. He's had games into the 2800's. I'm sure that maxes out the 1000 turn limit.

I would guess that yes, the game could go on forever. But I think it would get pretty boring after a while.

Don't exaggerate, tuner ;) My highest is only into 2559AD. And I don't know what other players do, but from 2050 on, it's not that slow. But I'm mostly the micromanaging-small empire type, that's why. And it's the most exciting part! I churn out tons of units and go off to conquer.

I employ the use of C3MT to keep me beyond 2050. I save at 2049, go on to win/lose, and then go into the SaveGame Modifier and change the ending date to 2700AD. I'll also turn off victory conditions as necessary to keep the game going. Like, if I suddenly win by culture, I'll go back to the turn before and uncheck culture victory.
