Can forts be built IN forests/jungle?

Hey guys

Can't you tell I'm new to the whole fort business (this being my third fort post)

I was wondering if you have to clear jungle/forest to build a fort on a tile? I've seen forts in forests but am not sure if these were once lighthouses or something...

If I understand your question, no, you can't build a fort on jungle/forest. If you do and you have the correct tech, the jungle/forest will be automatically chopped down. The exeptions are if you are the elves, where you can place any improvements on forests, and by messing aroung with worldbuilder.

BtS allowed it but FfH does not, with one exception; the two elven civs can build any improvement in a forests without clearing it, forts included.
