Can somebody explain to me why I'm called 'Caucasian'?

 Yeah, I don't think a 2 millenium old pagan worshipping Roman is really a fair source to critique the Jews. Probably wrote that all pissed off about the whole Masada thing.

The teachings of Jesus make it clear that after God's 'chosen people' didn't live up to his standards (i.e. failed to please Him), he extended this 'position' to the... riff-raff. For example, the parable about the wealthy lord that prepared a banquet, and invited all his upper-class friends and associates - but they all came up with an excuse to decline the invitation (had better things to do than go hang out I guess - maybe didn't value the friendship), so, the master sent his servants to go get people from the alleys, off the streets, the poor areas of town, etc. until all the seats were filled at the banquet. And alas, the attendees were not only present, but grateful.

So the 'Good News' is, we are all chosen people now - if each individual himself chooses to be (by seeking His company).

Anyway, to heck with this chosen vs. non-chosen. This is Anno Domini.

Also, speaking of Jews; I find it ironic that such efficient business-minded right-wing characters such as Henry Ford, and the 3rd Reich circus had such a problem with Jews - because they were so successful at business, and monetary matters. Effectively, the Jews were too good at playing the game THEY (the anti-Semites) wanted to master, so they cheated/dealt them out by force.

"We can't beat you, so we're going to gas you". -Pretty much sums it up. Pesonally I'm impressed with their business and finance efficiency. They've worked wonders here in the U.S. markets.

antisemitism has old and various roots in europe, please dont look at that problem in such an oversimplified way that could even lead to the assumption that the jews themselves are guilty for antisemitism...

Sheesh! How did this thread go so far off track?

As a "White" guy, "Caucasian" never offended me. The cops need some way to describe people...

VRWCAgent is voicing his religious beliefs when refering to us Jews as the "Chosen People" which kinda offsets the bigotry we sometimes have to deal with such as:

(BTW, that's one of the most prejudicial statements I've ever seen at CFC.)

The fact is that no matter what term is used-Jews, Israelites, Israelis, Hebrews, Judaism-we are not a race. There are African, Caucasian, Asian Jews & more.

I also agree with VRWCAgent in that I don't like to think of humans as divided into races. We're the human race & that's enough for me.

Some Christians see us as the Chosen People; some see us as money-grubbing subhumans. I don't see us as either, but I'd rather my son have to deal with the former rather than the latter.

Again, none of this has anything to do with the topic of this thread. If the OP doesn't want to be referred to as Caucasian, so be it. Let him define himself.

from what i know, and forgive me if im wrong or offending anyone, the Jews are considered Semites, or at least Hebrew is considered a semite language... which would technically make their roots Middle Eastern and not European. but these days, since the majority of Jews have been living in European countries for so long, many people just consider them white.

No offense taken at all.

Hebrew is indeed a Semitic language. Other examples are Arabic, Moabite, Edomite & (I think) Aramaic. Arabic is the most widely spoken Semitic language today. Most of the Semitic languages are dead.

Judaism's roots are indeed Middle Eastern.

European (Ashkenazic) Jews are just one group of many. We do look like other Europeans. I have blue eyes & was very blonde when I was a kid. Yiddish is an Ashkenazic language that uses the Hebrew alphabet, but incorporates allot of German, Polish & Russian.

There are also Sephardic Jews. "Sephardic" means "Spanish" & refers to the thousands of Jews expelled by Spain in 1492. Most of them went to Muslim lands like North Africa & the Ottoman Empire. Because of this, Jews from around the Mediteranean & the Middle East are called "Sephardic." Ladino is a Sephardic language primarily spoken in Turkey. It is a mixture of Hebrew & Spanish. Sephardic Jews look just like their neighbors, too.

Falasha Jews are an ancient branch from Ethiopia. Again, they look just like their neighbors.

There are also Chinese Jews that look just like other Chinese. And on and on and on...

So then if Jews are tecnically Semites, I think there is no need to discuss them here. :D

And i've heard theres Japanese Jews too. and Quechua jews. and mayan jews. its really interesting.

Race is a social construct but there are some biological underpinnings to it. The biological characteristics may be superficial but they are there none-the-less.

No. Endless amounts of research have shown that there is a lot more diversity within groups than between groups. There are no biological characteristics of race.

There is this tradition of the "lost tribes of Israel". Actually, well into the 19th c. the English was pretty full of this notion of the English as one of these lost tribes. It partly helps explain why Jews in the UK had a relatively easier time than in either France or Germany, who didn't go for being a "lost tribe of Israel", but if interested in being "special" would tend to go with being "Aryan".

And as an effect of western Christian missionary activity, people in every continent and climate have at some time taken this notion to heart, declaring themselves to be one of the "lost tribes". Some of the Pathans in modern Pakistan and Afghanistan might surprise you with this, if asked about their origins for example.

Often it started by some missionary setting himself up in a community and quickly finding it to be his "favourite" tribe, as opposed to whatever neighbours they might have had. Being a white, 19th c. European, these guys tended to regard these their new favourites as somehow "honorary Europeans", and being full of biblical history and belivers in its literal truth, they slapped the "Jewish" label on all and sundry.

It's a tad dry and scholarly but I can recommed Tudor Parfitt, "The Lost Tribes of Israel: The History of a Myth" (2003) if you're interested.:)
