Hi,

Being currently without Civ, but with a load of .xml files (Civ at home, me at uni), I've been doing some modding. Unfortunetely I have no way of testing it. Basically, one of the main things in the mod I'm making revolves around the unit changing appearance once it has recieved a promotion. Basically, the idea is to have members of the multi-unit looking different as promotions happened. For this I need the promotions to change the appearance of units. I'm at the stage where I need to implement this, and it's quite a big thing to do, so if I could know how it worked, it might well save me hours in the future.

I've attached a few files. I've modded the palace to give 50 experience, and the combat upgrades to do weird things (which I hope will work).

Here is what I think should happen.

1) Warrior built - gets lots of promos (pretty certain this bit will work...)
2) Combat 1 promotion - turns warriors into Lions
3) Combat 2 promotion - turns lions into bears
4) Combat 3 promotion - turns one bear into a lion
5) Upgrade to axeman - turns all 3 into axemen.
6) Combat 4 promotion - adds one bear to the axemen.
7) Combat 5 promotion - removes the bear

I can see various other things could come out of the other side of this including it not working, but I hope what I've described will happen.

Thanks in advance to anybody who does this for me!

EDIT: Attachment removed - it didn't work :(

Hi, I downloaded the files and put them under the customassets folder matching the correct folder of the originals, promo and unit info in units and building info in buildings.

However when CIV4 loads and get to loading xml (uncached) i get error messages come up. The zip file contains a rtf file with the errors copied and pasted, hopefully they mean more to you than me.

Thanks - it would appear what I was trying to do just doesn't work :( I thought it would given that the schema's are the same. Bah!

EDIT: Hmmm, worked out why the schema's came up with an error, though if this one doesn't work I'll be completely stumped.

Unfortunately its still produces errors.

Forgot to mention on the last post, that the wordpad is only the first few errors. I kept clicking and clicking and they still kept coming up with different errors, have to close program with task manager. The same thing happens with this one too. :(

I like the idea, and I hope it is do-able eventually.

Ok, thanks anyway. I'm sure I'll be able to manage it once I work out python a bit more. I hope some Civ-Specific python tutorials will come soon!
