See the first GOTM sticky above. I cannot get it to work. Everything shold be correct, but I get "the save file you selected is protected to ensure the assets in the mod folder are protected" ?????????????? The game then shuts down.

Anyone ever see this?

Hate to be impatient, but I've only been trying to get this to work for 2 hours, and I'd like to get it to work tonight.

What version of CIV are you using. Is it a vanilla disk, CIV Gold or a Steam version?

Installing CIV on the D: drive should require that your HoF Mod be installed there as well. The HoF Mod should be placed in the MOD Folder that is part of your CIV installation. The path should be something like D:\Firaxis\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods

Yeah, everything was in the right place.

Not sure if you read my post in the GOTM thread, but I think I may have been on to the problem. I had downloaded 1.74, long ago, and thought I was using it. But, the patch doesn't give you a choice, and unkownst to me since, only applied to the C drive. So, I've still been using 1.61. I imagine that's the problem.

Bigger problem know, though, as I've been trying to get 1.74 going. I tried moving my save folder and the HOF mod folder to the C drive Civ 4 folder. The game won't run saying some D3DX9_32.DLL was not found. It appears it's solely a problem with 1.74, as the game ran fine under 1.61. So, now I'm dead in the water again, trying to figure this out.

All in all, quite a frustrating Sunday evening.

Try reading this thread from the tech support forum.

Time for bed, good luck.

That at least helped a bit....thanks.

However, now, it stops in mid load(that's progress at least) with a weird graphic, but I can still make out an "error loading shader libraries", and the game quits.

Guess I'll do a search on that odd one. Did this patch 1.74 cause a bunch of problems when it came out? Geez.

Edit: Well...I made progress, I think. This is ridiculous. Found another thread about the shader libraries problem, and went and got a new direct x 9. Everything seemed great. Finally! Uhoh. Right back where I started "the save file you selected is protected to ensure the assets in the mod folder are protected", whenever I try to load the GOTM file.

I am using vanilla Civ 4 1.74, and now I have no clue what else could be wrong.

yeah it did lol

I'm not really sure why patch 1.74 was even released...it seemed to me that it was rather pointless for BtS to patch and change the .exe of Warlords and Vanilla when it was released and in some of the subsequent patches. It doesn't make sense to me.
