sorry if this was already posted, but for those nervously awaiting civ and worried if their pc will run it... the website www.canyourunit.com will diagnose your pc to determine if its up to snuff. Enjoy

just a heads up i had difficulty getting the software to run using IE or Firefox, but it worked fine in Chrome.

For me, it said I failed even though I had greater than the minimum requirements. If you have less than 2 Ghz it may think that the AMD requirement is what it's looking for.

In the world of me, there is a thing called not wanting to buy a newly designed PC because it is out of my budget and I do not like PCs.

And BootCamp only works if you buy a PC.

what? Bootcamp allows you to run windows on a mac. hence allowing you to play civ. You would need to acquire a copy of windows.. yes, but pc... no.

Um, no, it doesn't. At least since the release of Mac OSX 10.5, there is built-in support to run a Windows partition on a Mac. All you need is a Windows license, and about an hour to install Windows.

For me, it's not a question of whether I can run it, as whether I can run it at maximum specs.

Yeah it said my computer was not able to run CIV 4 yet it runs perfectly on the highest setting, and i spec'd it out and it should run CIV 5 pretty well too.. for whatever its worth.

I noticed if you have an integrated graphics chip as well as a supplementary graphics card it only specs out the integrated one. This possibly causes the failure.

Also if you have 4 gigs of ram on your system that actual amount of ram factors out to be around 3.8 gigs. But the Canyourunit software fails < 4. (on recommended settings tab)

I'm totally confused at why it's saying I'm failing (which is scary because it's a brand new computer).

CPU
Minimum: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 64 2.0 GHz
You Have: AMD Athlon(tm) II P320 Dual-Core Processor

CPU Speed
CPU Speed
Minimum: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 64 2.0 GHz
You Have: 2.09 GHz

At least with the CPU Speed, it looks like I'm above (although not by much). Can anyone interpret my numbers and tell me if I'm SOL?

CPU PASS
Minimum: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 64 2.0 GHz
You Have: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz

CPU Speed FAIL
Minimum: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 64 2.0 GHz
You Have: 2.97 GHz

Such fun.

Maybe he means "buy Windows."

Or he's got a PPC Mac (and considers the Intel ones to be inferior for some reason?)

Just because a laptop is "brand new" it doesn't mean automatically that it will be suited for gaming. But your CPU indeed meets the "minimum" requirement, though even if it were 1.9 instead of 2.1 GHz it would make almost no difference.
Much more important will be your video card, and i suspect that it's a rather basic/cheap model, so it will probably work, but without the eye candy.

Oh and this whole "Can You Run It" thingy does spit out some weird results. If it claims you can run it, it is probably true, but if it says "no" it's not necessarily so :)

That website is, to be honest, a load of horsecrap

But hey, at least I've installed Java out of it xP

I agree. The website promised me I couldn't run Just Cause 2 at all, but I can run it at maximum glory. Now it says I can't run Civ5, so I'm fairly confident I can run it just fine.

The waiting for the demo continues...

You can't always trust that site, when I had a gtx120 last year the site didn't know what it was and would say I couldn't run the a game, and I could. Also if you have a quad core it someti
es reads them funny, but I think they've fixed that now. Just don't take that site as the end all be all, and try the demo.

Same here. This tool is somewhat ... broken. I know I will be able to play. Just how is what worries me.
edit:
Oh actually I just realized I even almost meet recommended specs :D Except that my CPU is 2 Duo and not Quat (but a fairly good one) and my graphics card is HD 4570 instead of HD 4800 [which the website failed to realize at all], though got 1GB instead of 500MB).

Anybody care to advise what the difference in the graphic card can mean for me?

I realize that. I was just pointing out that I couldn't buy a new one, I'm stuck with this one.

That's a relief to hear. I guess I'll have to live with the minimum.

with Radeon HD5850 and E8500 @ 3,5 GHz, I'm expecting to run it on Max with DX 11. Altough the CPU might slow me down, as usual.
