CANALS

It would be great to be able to build artificial waterways-- rather than having to build a city on a tile in order to join two bodies of water-- I would like to be able to build canals across several tiles to join large bodies of water or inland to a lake.

Well, I can't remember which interview / announcement it was, but there was a little hint that there will be canals, if I'm not mistaken.
