Cannot get civilization4.exe 1.61 patch to run

I cannot get this game to patch from version 1.09 to 1.61

The patch appears to run normally and finishes by rebooting the machine. Howevern, when I go to restart the game the new civilization4.exe file is in the C:\windows\ directory and will not run from there. I moved it to the \\program files\fireaxis games\civiliziation 4\ directory and there it starts loading but then ends with no message and does not load the game.

I have already completely uninstalled and reinstalled twice. I also used the registry hack but have had no sucess.

Any ideas of a way I can get this from version 1.09 to version 1.61?

I don't recall the patch rebooting my machine. But perhaps I'm just senile. Anyway: why are you patching from 1.09 and not from 1.00? Or have you got some later edition of the game with 1.09 as default?

Anyway: if you're using the in-game patcher, try instead to download the patch manually and run it (or vice versa).

If you bought the game online via Direct2Drive, search for patches on their site.

the version I boughtin the us...since my overseas version wasn't working....was a used version that was already at 1.09. the game runs the patch just fine but then I can't get the new patch to load. it says it can't find the files, so i moved to the civilization 4 directory (after renaming the previous version .exe file) and it won't run. no error messages the hourglass comes on and goes away and it is not running any threads.

Bummer. Try e.g. first upgrading to 1.52 to see if that works. The older patch should be somewhere to find, hopefully.
