Cannot get Mod dire to work, no Cache directory

Alright, I made the Canada Mod (in the Custom Mods forum) and it works perfectly when installed in CustomAssets. No problems.

When I try to use the 'Mods' directory, however, it simply doesn't load. It *says* that it's loaded (and it says 'Canada Mod' in the top right corner) but none of the Civ, Leaders, Pedia entries are available.

I copied the exact structure of thr American Rev. / Desert War folders. I've tried loading the mod from within the game (re-starting) and loading it straight away (Civ4 ini file). Neither works.

I'm at my wits end here as I cannot, for the life of me, understand what I could possibly be missing. For the record, the Amerrican Rev mod works perfectly.

The XML files cannot be the problem, as they work from CustomAssets. I don't know why my mod data won't load.

Thoughts anyone?

Second, I simply cannot locate a 'Cache' directory or any kind - not in the My Games\Civ4 or the Firaxis\Civ4.

I have hidden folders viewable for the entire C:\ tree, and when I go through the Civ4 folders one by one, I see nothing that looks remotely like a Cache directory. I see clearing the cache as solutions for a few problems, but I can't find this folder at all.

Any help would be appreciated. While CustomAssets works fine I do think the community prefers using the Mod folder, and I'd like to accommodate that.

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\My Games\Civilization 4\cache

Edited: ugh

I was looking in the stupid My Games folder under Documents (where the custom assets are) rather than the My Games folder under Application Data.

Thanks.

Why on earth, by the way, does the game need 3 directories. Why not put the cache in the Documents\My Games folder. Ugh.

Thanks.

My best guess is that it's done in order to keep it hidden away as much as possible from the average user. *shrug*
