I cannot install the 1.52 patch, and have already tried reinstalling 4 times but it says that no previous version is installed on my laptop!!

Do you have the Direct2Drive version? If so you need to download it from their site.

Nah man, I bought it from GAME...but I still tried the D2D one which also did not work

You will definitely need a re-install now if you ran the Direct2drive patch.

Before doing that, please post your Dxdiag

(Start button - select run - type dxdiag - hit enter - wait a min - select 'save all information' - post it using the 'go advanced' button below)

Hisssss - I was born in Sale Manchester ..... :D

Download Patch V1.52 (or move it out of the game directory if you already downloaded via the game interface) via

http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/downloads.htm

Before Patching
Windows add/remove in control panel remove Civ - success or failed do the following

Delete the Civ IV Directories in:

- Programs/Firaxis
- My Documents / My Games
- C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\My Games\Civilization IV\ Its a hidden directory if not seen just check you have "show hidden files" switched on

- Delete Windows/Temp files
- Delete Browser Temp files

Load from discs
Load Patch V1.52

If still issues post again

....omg I wana cry...still the same!!! But now it 1.0 instead of 1.09 hehe
My friend said that it might have something to do with the registry entry being at fault? He asked if you could export you Civ 4 reg to a .reg and post it

BTW Normally I hate Arsenal...but I hate United even more hehe Leeds will once again dominant Europe!...Someday...

"But now it 1.0 instead of 1.09 " ??

Did you purge the beast of the game and reload as above ? Patch V1.52 is very very important

Dont mess with registry - v unlikely the problem - maybe - but hold off for the moment

Yeh man trust me i followed EVERYTHING! TWICE!

"But now it 1.0 instead of 1.09 " ?? by that I just meant that before it was 1.09 but then I purged the game, so it was 1.0 again

Why is 1.52 very very important btw? Thought it was basically just to improve performance?

Yes it did - but they did that by sorting out a hell of a lot of memory management issues, that affected a multitude of game aspects - not just basic RAM vis performance. The Board was in Meltdown mode pre-V1.52, now its back to the usual gently simmering .....

Hence trying to make sure you only loaded from the discs and only loaded from the Offcial 1.52 Patch, not Direct2Drive's patch.

Stay with V1.52 come what may, not using it will only mask true issues as things proceed.

The mystery is why its not finding the game from the Patch - there have been issues in loading from some CDs & DVDs, but not come across not loading from the Patch before ....

If you Ack this post so your name is in the post list on screen, and hang on, there's a couple of guys who usually come in about now - to an hour from now - who could take you thro other stuff. Please keep the installation clean as is, or at the least tell em any changes made

Dont go crazy on the Registry - its very rare to have a civ problem there ...

Zy

Oh right I didnt realise that abou the patch. I've searching for hours but it seems as though this is a not a very common happening...

And about the registry I personally wouldnt know where to start!

This problem with the patch being unable to find the Civ 4 installation may actually be a registry problem. See the following thread on Apolyton where a user eventually solved the problem by applying a .reg file that I created:

http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=145581

However, that fix messed up some of his paths (since his game was not installed in the same location as mine).

roofio86 -- Before you try the reg fix, I suggest (if you haven't already done so) that you simply try to reinstall the game over the current installation (that is, don't uninstall first). This should rewrite the registry with the proper values and then you should be able to run the patch.

Please post again if you have any questions or need more help. Also, let us know if you get it working!

OML!! THAT YOU SOOOOOOMUCH!!! Just finished installing the patch after using the registry thing! Really Appreciate your help guys!
