Cannot install-DVD not recognized

So I posted in a thread in the bugs forum but i figured it might get read more here.
the drive will not even recognize the DVD and I cannot even view it in explorer. My laptop isn't very good but I'm not that bothered. the drive I have is a Sony crx - 830E JPK4 but when I lookd for firmware updates I found a topic on a different site that said there were none. so I do't know how to get the drive to veen read the disc

I'm confused now as my drive says DVD on the side but reading into system information and bits, it says CD rom??

okay so i think it does read DVDs but it also can write to them to, will this affect the copy protection thing?

I would double check that it can read dvds first. Have you got any dvd movies lying around you can try?

well it's supposed to read DVDs but doesn't want to, I guess I shall wait until I am rich enough to get a new laptop
