I just bought beyond the sword and it worked perfectly. Then i bought a new laptop and it was working fine the first week now it wont let me play. I put in disk 1 and it says cannot locate CD-Rom. Can anyone help me:confused:

I am having a similar problem. I have Civ III and Civ IV on my puter and I have just purchased the BTS disc. But, my cd-rom will not recognize the BTS disc. So, I haven't even been able to load it.

Could use some suggestions.

BTW, the cd-rom is working properly because it will recognize and play Civ IV and my music discs.

I seem to have solved this problem but for the life of me I can't figure out why my solution worked for me. Out of desperation and irritation I decided to set up my own shortcut to:

<your disk>:/Program Files/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Beyond the Sword/Civ4BeyondSword.exe

Using this shortcut I haven't had any problems since.

Hope it helps someone!

jcghln,

Your correction sounds good, but, I am not a techie. Could you explain, step by step, how you accomplished this? You may email me at freedude@frontiernet.net if you wish.

As of the moment, I cannot even get my computer to recognize that the BTS disc is in the cd-rom. So, I haven't been able to load it onto my puter. I am using XP Pro, if that makes any difference.

Thanx,

Bill

I just right clicked on the shortcut for beyond the sword shortcut and then pressed properties then compatibility and found out I was running it in the wrong compatibility mode. it was set on Windows XP so I moved it to windows server 2003. that fixed it for me. If any of you have vista try checking this and seeing if its on 2003

I'm not running any compatibility mode. My problem is that this CD just won't be spun up and initialized in the CD drive. Every other CD I've ever had works fine in this drive. I think this BtS CD is just "off" somehow.

I've tried 10 times tonight, and it won't recognized the CD as being in the drive. Same problem I described here, only now the trick of putting in another CD first and then doing the BtS CD won't work anymore. So I can't play the game anymore!!!!!

Eureka, I have found the answer to my loading problem. It was really simple, really. I just haven't had time to sit down and study it until recently.

Here's what I did. I inserted the CD into the CDRom. Then I opened my 'search' program in the Windows start menu. I searched for anything in the CDRom and came up with all the folders on the BTS disc. I then found the setup.exe link and clicked on that. Immediately, the BTS installation wizard came up and I loaded the program. I have already started playing one mod. It is great. I won't get any more work done this weekend. Oh Well!!!!!

Hope this helps someone else. If I can be of any help to anyone else, you can email or pm me. :goodjob:

Freedude, my DVD wouldn't recognise my BTS DVD at all, wouldn't spin it up or anything. DVD was recognised in other DVD drives, but not mine. I eventually bought a new DVD drive - I wanted to get a writer anyway as my old one was just a player, and the new one recognised to DVD immediately and I installed BTS. Now I get the insert the correct DVD message which I got with Vanilla (also on DVD), but not with Warlords (on CD).

Sounds like you had a hardware problem and I had a software problem. The software between my ears, that is.

I keep calling my DVD my CD Rom; out of habit I suppose.

Anyway, glad we both got our problems worked out. I've been playing the BTS all day. I really like the final frontier and I'm not sure whether or not I like Afterworld. It is certainly a fine job of graphics, but it take some getting used to.

Well, back to the game. C YA.
