When I click the icon to start the game, maybe 5 sec it seems to work fine... Then comes this box :

Cannot locate the DVD-ROM
"Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart application"

What the heck is this? There is only one DVD-ROM, so I´m a little bit confused...

I did take out the DVD-ROM and replaced it -> OK -> restart -> and it´s still giving me the same errorbox. :crazyeye:

Firstly, download the patch if ya dont have it already.

Try again and if the same thing happens try closing all running apps
to do this click start, run, type msconfig, click on startup and disable all. click apply and close and restart. Then try again

If it still dont work right click on the shortcut and choose propities, then compatibility and make sure the box isn't ticked for run in compatibility mode.
If it wasn't already try ticking it and choose windows nt.then try again

If it still doesn't work update the firmware for the drive

good luck!!

I´ve got patch 1.52.

Been there, done that. No help.

I did try to find any updates for my DVD-drive (Toshiba ODD-DVD SD-M1802), but I did find nothing...

I just loaded patch 1.61, and... This is f..king marvelous!!!
Now it´s saying that I´ve the wrong CD-ROM... :crazyeye: :crazyeye: :crazyeye:
And I still have the DVD-Rom... :goodjob:

I'm having the exact same problem here. Worked fine for 1.52, not for 1.61.

You will get this error if you have any cd/dvd copying programs, virtual drives etc. Especially CloneCD...

Either
- get a nodvd crack
- create dvd image on HDD, mount with daemon tools, hide with sd4hide

This is rubbish. I went through this with 1.52 and had it all working with sd4hide and sd4hide does not help at all with 1.61

I don't think those morons at take 2 know what they are doing. Even microsoft could have created a fix by now.

sd4hide has worked flawlessly with all civ4 versions to date

anyway, try cleaning your disc softly, and try re-running the game a few times.

No it hasn't. It's worked for me until I installed 1.61 (after an email from support advising me to do so).

I installed No-DVD.exe-file, but it didn´t help. PC crashed to blue screen when "Init MP/Voice" came... Some driver caused that, don´t know which one...

I started to think, that the reason could be either the Realtek -soundcard or then the intergrated one at motherboard (Intel D915GAV).

( OT: PC crashes to blue screen also when I try to use my brand new head-set with Messenger or Skype... )

So I updated BIOS and also the Realtek-soundcard.
Result: No help...

I've suddenly had this problem since installing Warlords. Anyone else? Any suggestions?

Just make sure that you have the correct disk in drive. To play civ you need civ disk, to play warlords you need warlords disk.

I´m still having this same problem...

I contacted with techsupport (2nd time) and they gave me many fixis, but they didn´t work. And when I wrote them, that their last fix didn´t work, they didn´t anymore e-mailed me... Great customer service, in deed... (this same happened also at the 1st time I contacted them...)

So if anyone has more ideas, how I get the game working, I´d be very grateful!

So what is the status with you Timonen at the moment? With original executable you get the "cannot locate dvd" error? With modified exe you crash at init mp/voice? Still like that?

I am in the same boat as Timonen. I can't get my copy to run on my brand new Dell laptop. "Cannot locate the DVD-ROM..." comes up as well. I did all the things that civ_god06 recommended and nothing.

I don't have any cd/dvd copying programs or anything like that (I am not smart enough to run them :-( )

What can I do?

ps. I have the special edition of the game, that isn't the problem right?

Don't forget the simple things:

1. Open and close your DVD drive. This gets my Warlords going after the "Cannot locate..." message.

2. A CD-ROM drive can't play DVDs.
