Cannot play any BTS mods in Vista

OK, I've had BTS for a while now and have played several regular campaign games on my new Vista machine - they work fine. I tried to load up a couple of the mods today and they all crash at the end of the loading screen after I've selected options. I don't know if Vista is a factor or not. What might be happening? What can I do? I'm specifically trying to play Afterworld or Final Frontier.
