Cannot play multiplayer. (1.7.4 patch issue)

Hi, I am Migs and I have played civilization for a long time. I just signed up on these forums to see if my problem can be solved/has been solved.

No matter where I download the 1.7.4 patch, it says that the patch failed to download. I asume there is a post about this, but I could not see it right off the bat and I can't search through pages of posts finding the answer, so I posted this.

To be more specific, I played CIV 4 on my other laptop and then I put it on my current one. I have the game and can play fine. It is just that when signing into multiplayer on my Gamespy account, I am taken to the server joining menu where a message somewhere along the lines of "You must download 1.7.4 to play multiplayer." comes up.

If I do not download patch 1.7.4, I am obviously taken back to the login screen. If I download the patch, it says patch failed to download and takes me back to the login screen again. I have seen many different problems with 1.7.4 But I have yet to see an answer.

The patch function built into all versions of CIV does not work properly. If you have been using that, I suspect that is your trouble. The patch can be downloaded from these forums in a zipped form with a working installer included. Try that.

(That is how I upgraded my vanilla CIV to 1.74. BTW, "vanilla" CIV, if you see it used like I did, on these forums refers to the original CIV game without either of the expansions, Warlords and Beyond The Sword.)
