Can you upload a screenshot of what you see when the window pops up? I'd have to assume you are still at 4000bc when this happens if no turns are saving. If you have gone beyond that point in a game, nothing will show up the first time you use ctrl+s in any given turn. You will only see an "already saved, do you want to overwrite?" message if you save twice or more in a single turn.

Check your Preferences menu as well to be sure you have "autosaves" enabled. They are much larger files than manual saves, but they happen automatically.

yes i am (or was) past 4000 BC. actually i was at about 800 AD, autosave is on. And i only save once per turn with few exeptions.

by the way i have a screenshot but how can i show it to you? i can describe it though. it has the save box and in the save box there is a line that says:
...

and underneath it:

Autosave

and at the very bottom there is a text box to name the saved file, and no matter what buttonns i press (especially enter) it wont save. I am pretty sure that what is supposed to happen is after the selector is on the line that says:

...

it will create a new box underneath it that will say:

Lincoln of the Americans, xxx AD./BC.SAV
and then ask if im sure i want to overwrite but instead when i hit enter it just closes out.

It's a bit hard to picture from your description. I think the only time I get an ... is when I try to open a file and there is no recent default file to play. A save should automatically pick up the name and date of your save without having to type anything in the box.

Here is a screenie of a ctrl+s from a game I'm playing currently. You should be seeing something similar. The names listed above my current Ottoman save are other games I'm playing on and off.

my image looks just like that except there are no save files, if you scroll to the top of that screen you will see what i am talking about.

all there is is this :

...
autosave

Lincoln of the Americans, 800AD.SAV

normally all i should have to do is hit enter and a new save file will appear but instead when i hit enter nothing happens

by the way i have a screenshot but how can i show it to you?
You'll need to upload the screenshot (in jpeg format) either using the Easy Upload system, or to something like ImageShack or Photobucket. Then you can paste a link to the screenshot. There's also a thread here on how to upload screenshots.

i can describe it though. it has the save box and in the save box there is a line that says:
...

and underneath it:

Autosave

Isn't the "..." next to a folder?

If it's asking if you're sure that you want to overwrite, it should be overwriting if you hit the correct button. (I think it's the O, to continue, rather than the X.)

The save dialog box looks like this.

Ok, not quite like this, because I have a whole bunch of different folders that I put saves in. If the ". . . " folder is at the top, the game tries to put manual saves sort of outside any of those folders and it puts autosaves in the "Auto" folder, I think. (Please bear in mind that tech support really isn't my strong suit.) Hitting the X button cancels the save and hitting the O should save it.

yes i know all of this, but that doesnt really help. (no offense) and yes i do hit the circle button, and the "..." is next to a folder. the "..." i think means new folder, or back. but instead when i hit enter nothing happens, it just closes out.

No offense taken. I was just having a hard time picturing what you were describing without a screenshot.

Edit: And if this:
all there is is this :

...
autosave

Lincoln of the Americans, 800AD.SAV
is all contained in the box, like above, where the "..." is next to the folder, "autosave" is a folder below that and "Lincoln of the Americans, 800AD.SAV" is in the box where my screenshot shows "Gilgamesh of the Sumerians," the everything appears to be right, and hitting that O should save it. This may seem like a stupid question (like I said, tech support's not my strong suit), but how do you know it's not saving? Have you tried loading an old save? I ask because when I hit the button to save, as in the screenshot above, the box just disappears, but the save is there later.

As an aside (AFAIK) not relevant to the problem you're having, the "..." takes you up a level in the file structure, rather than creating a new folder.

i know that the game isnt saving because when i close out and try to load it there isnt any saved file for me to load. and when i go back to the save screen the box looks the same just:

...
autosave
there should be a file underneath it that says:
Lincoln of the Americans, 800AD.SAV
but there isnt so thats why im here

no im not running vista and no i havent looked around for the files.
by the way im gonna email you the picture of what i see when i try to save is this ok?

ok will do. but like i said in the email that thing wont let me copy & paste that picture. i am pretty sure that direct email will work. ( direct means i will send it via yahoo email instead of using this forum to forward it.

this forum wont let me upload the pic! i tried using microsoft word and powerpoint but it says it is prohibited

you know what forget about the picture lets just get down to basics. How do you normally save your game for the first time?
