Can't connect overseas nodes?

Hi, I'm still trying to figure this game/mod out and am having trouble with nodes.

I'm trying to play on huge Erebus maps which pretty much always separate me from other nations with impassable mountain ranges, which means I have to get boats and/or water walking. (Unless there's something I'm missing?)

In my current game, there's a huge southern continent I mostly control as the Balseraphs with Council of Esus religion. I focused mainly on getting the Council's mage hero and a bunch of archmages to twincast earth elementals because Hyborem gated in early near me, and I understand death magic (spectres, etc.) doesn't work too well against demons. My earth elementals squashed him pretty good though and I took him out early because I just barely, barely got to twincast when he arrived.

I took over all my other nearby neighbors and found the closest other neighboring nations were the demon people and the Kuriotates (sp?), the 3-city people, on the same continent but separated by completely impassable mountain ranges, so I teched to naval and put my mage hero and wizards on the boat and ground them into the dust with puppet-summoned earth elementals too. Each of those guys had a node that was linked to their city by roads, and I took over every city and culture-built like crazy so I now own all surrounding tiles, including the nodes, connected in a giant yellow Balseraph splotch on the map. My capital city, which is on the coast, has a harbor, and every single captured city I own is connected by roads and they all have the little "trade route" triangle icon on them.

Yet for some reason I'm not getting the 1 death mana from the demon guys and the 1 water mana from the 3-city guys, even though I'm connected?

What am I missing?

Are some of the cities in the captured area on the coast? (Or rivers)

Yah, the demon guys (who were closer) have a coast city I captured and I made sure to build a harbor too.

I should explain that the demon guys and 3-city guys were not separated by impassable mountains so there's road connecting the demon guys' old cities and the 3-city guys' cities. And each dead civ owned 1 node that's connected to all their cities by roads, so I don't get it.

a) Your spelling of the Kuriotates was correct.
b) Could you upload a save or a screenshot so people can look at it? This generally yields a lot more helpful answers. ;)

It also helps to tell which version of the mod you're running.

A few potential reasons you may not be getting the nodes:

You don't have the techs to use them (Elementalism, Necromancy);
You haven't connected the nodes with a road;
You don't have a trade route (although you say you are getting the trade route symbol). So you have the naval techs you need, posssibly Astrology?
You have the naval techs to transport, but you are blockaded;
For the death mana, it is excluded because of an overcouncil vote;

As Dot mentioned, if none of these seem to be the answer, post a save game.

Best wishes,

Breunor

he is CoE so not subject to overcouncil resolutions;
he could get there with a boat... normally he should be able to trade.

elementalisme/necromancy are not required to use a mana node that is upgraded. You only need to tech to build the mana node.

I think that in base FFH, once upon a time, on culture change, a node lost the improvement mana temple AND the coloration of the node : it became raw.

I can't remember the last time I took an exploited node from the AI (nor played vanilla FFH) so I don't know if it has changed or not.

But my guesses would be one of the four reasons here :
-upon conquest, the nodes became raw mana
-upon conquest, the nodes stayed water/death but lost the improvement,
-your trade route to the capital is blocked :
either you have to go through a non-allied or non-open border civ (without counting ocean tiles)
either a sea monster or two are on the path from the sea-shore captured cities and your sea-shore mainland ports.

last : you don't have sea-trade tech. (the cities can have the triangle icon even if not connected to the capital if they can trade between themselves). look into a captured city, and check if they have access to some ressource that exist in the main empire but not in the new land you captured.

Thx for the suggestions guys, but I got to a point where I was about to kill my 3rd enemy civ with my mage hero and 4x archmages and puppet army, and I guess I summoned too many earth elementals and that made the game crash. Got so frustrated suddenly that I quit the game and deleted all saves, heh.
