I loaded up all the GOTM pre-req installs. While waiting for Spain to start, I played a normal game and found that the GOTM installs added resources and what have it, which i expected from reading about them. However, original resources like, aluminum, rubber, oil and possible others have been replaced with text which says stuff like "open" and when i pull details on teh square it will then tell me what it is. I think the other text description is "conquer"

is this what its supposed todo?

It sounds like you are playing in Civ or civ for mac rather than Play The World.

To restore your 'normal' resources, you will need to swap a couple of files over. Do a search in your Civ3 directory and subdirectories for a .txt file called something like "resource swapping". In there, it explains what to do to get your resources back.

These extra resources add a bit of difference to the game, and the Open, Conquest and Predator resources are simply to enable us (the staff) to determine who played what class. :)

You are right, i am playing vanilla civ3 for the pc. However, GOTM is for both (as i understood) and I made sure to download the appropriate version. (not ptw)

if i change back my resources will I still be able to play GOTM? I am thinking not since i'll be missing all the resources others will be getting, not to mention errors that may occur.

I have PTW, should I just install and use that version instead?

thanks for your help.

You just need to switch between the gotm pair of resources files and the standard pair for standard games. The resources file swap is very easy in each direction. If you are nervous about swapping files about then PTW will save you the bother. I'm not nervous, but I am lazy, and I don't have the PTW option on a Mac. So ...

As I find myself swapping around between several different game mods in some months I now keep separate complete installations of civ3, each modded for a different set of games, and launch the one I want at any time using a set of shortcuts to the different .exe files. Maybe this is easier on a Mac than on a PeeCee, but I doubt it. P'raps, as Billy G issues dire warnings to PC owners about venturing into "Program Files", a lot of them believe there are dragons in there

Alan,

thanks, I didn't realize about the different resource files being used by different game types.

I work in the IT field so im well equiped with a shield and dragon slaying sword, that i'll be sure to take with me when i venture into the program files folder.

thanks again, i think i'll go the route of multiple installations.
