Ok i wabt t oget a long game goin in civ 3 ptw, but whenever I start the gme really sux. got any tips who to be or who to play against??

jus keep expanding and get to know other civs. if your location sucks ass then it is vitile you expand to more prosperous terrain.

china chefitan level if you are new, if you've played civ II you might find that level too easy though. also like GT said, I used to play large maps with min civs because I thought I could expand faster, well you do somewhat but the advantages to having alot of civs to trade and map diplomatic agreements with out-weigh any advantage to minimum number of civs.

Welcome to CFC :)

If you want a good game as in a FUN game, then even if you get a bad starting spot (like i did recently) keep playing it and see what you can make of it... If you want a good game as in a WINNING game, then i guess just reload till you get a better one lol.

When starting a game, put the world wet, temperate, and 4 billions years old. This has made me some pretty nice worlds :)

rivers

flood plains as well.
wet its good for industrial civs, cause they take half the time to clear jungle than others, and there is alot of jungle on wet worlds. clear the jungle in your city radius but leave any other spare,so you might get resouces and it slows down the enemy.

I've also found it helpful to play on continents (medium or large) and a wet world. You tend to get more rivers and floodplains.

cool I didnt realize that
course I never play on anything but normal anyway, maybe I need to expand my horizons... :)

does dry give you anything? More oil I suppose

When you play on huge or large maps with lots of civs dosent that make the between turn wait alot longer? If it does is there anyway to fix that?

This is another reason why the Civ 2 Cheat Mode was so useful. You could take a quick peek at your location to see if it was hopeless; you could also quickly run the game a few thousand years to, say, 1000 BC, to see if anything looked interesting; if not, quit and start again. No time wasted, unlike Civ 3.

The lack of this Cheat Mode was the first complaint I had about CIv 3. I see no reason why we can't have this option patched in. Why not?

After wasting a week and playing two games w/ no coal, and losing coal my second turn, I started creating my own maps. Randomly, as I don't want to create every square. This way, I can at least ensure that getting a resource is feasable, instead of wasting time with a dead-end civ.

I never played Civ 2 Zouave but was this cheat anything like the 'multi' cheat in Civ 3? This still enabled you to see everything.
