Can't get BtS or any patches to install

I had to reformat the hard drive and re-install Windows XP on my computer recently due to a virus. Previously, Civilization IV had worked flawlessly on my computer, but now I'm having problems. I successfully installed Civilization IV, but when I try to install Beyond the Sword, it tells me that there's a new patch and then I get a failed to install the patch error message and the installation program quits. When I tried to install patches for the base game, I either get a "Your computer doesn't have a version of Civ 4 on it" (v1.61), "Version 1.09 of Civ 4 can't be patched to this version" (v1.74) or "0/-1 and then an error message" (the in-game patch installer). Any suggestions? I've already updated my graphics card & DirectX drivers to the most recent versions.

I'm using the CD version of the game. I bought the main game and Beyond the Sword separately.

how did you try patching the game (did you use the ingame patcher - or downloaded patches)?

I'm having the exact same problem.

BTS fails to install when it tries to patch directx during the installation.
When I try to download patch 174 for regular Civ IV in-game, it doesn't download. It shows 0/-1 bytes and then says that the patch could not be installed. When I tried installing the 174 patch out-of-game (I believe i got it from trymedia or something like that) I get a message saying my "computer does not have a version of Civ 4 installed on it" I DO have Civ IV installed, I can play single player.

My games are discs. I don't have Civ Gold, just the regular Civilization IV. I have Warlords but it is not installed. I bought BTS, but like I said, it will not install.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

you need to use the patches from trymedia - just search for trymedia and patch here and you'll find the links

The out-of-game patch I attempted to install already was off of trymedia. When I tried to install it again, it told me I don't have the digital version of Civ 4. Which, now that I think of it, I suppose is true. My Civ was installed with discs from a regular Civilization IV, no expansions or anything. Not Gold edition. So I'm assuming this patch I tried is for a DLed version, so where can I get an out of game patch for the disc version?

I'm going to try reinstalling the game and see if it works then.

you will probably need to uninstall the game, reinstall it and then patch it - using first the 1.61 patch, then the 1.74 patch and then try installing BtS
