I am not behind a software firewall. I have the DMZ enabled on my router so I shouldnt be having any firewall problems that I know of.. However, When I try to join Internet games I usually do not connect to them. I get the "connecting" message but it doesnt go to the lobby or anything. It does work sometimes, but usually not.. weird.... Also, if I am the first person to join a game no one else seems to be able to join it. No one can join my Internet games either.

I'm having a Similar problem as TheeLord. I have more or less DMZ going and a bunch of Port Forwards through the router to my comp for Gamespy. Though my problem is odd.... And i have checked this all out to make sure it wasn't there..
It get "Username not valid" when i try to connect.
Now i have gone to gamespy and checked out that i was using the right nickname as well as the correct password, and it still isn't working. So using another of my E-mail addresses I try to make a new account for just Civ 4, and then it tells me Log-in Failed.
Can someone give me a hand i'm doing wrong here.... what ports have to be fowarded to my comp? What do i need to do... though i do have the Windows XP SP2 Firewall up... does that need to come down? What am i missing here...?

Take the windows firewall down, I never get that kind of a message... Gamespy sucks and doesnt like any firewalls or routers, i dont get it at all. Why can other companys program their internet games to work right, but Civ's never work lol

Yep having the same problem. I get an error like "The Login has Failed" no matter whether i input real info or junk. Create account or login, same thing. Yuck! These guys need to give Blizzard a call and learn how to do multiplayer gaming...

Gamespy has always been garbage. Whoever mentioned Blizzard is right on the money. How long has it been since Diablo was released? 10 years? Multiplayer was relatively quick and painless, and no 3rd-party trash installation required.
No its not the login problem people are having...
I get "Connection attempt to the host has timed out" errors if I wait long enough when I try to join a game. It doesnt happen all the time, just MOST of the time, Id say about 90% of games... it really might be all games if theres more than just the host in there. Then when I join, no one else can join the game afterwards.
