Can't load BtS - XML load errors

I just installed BtS expansion for the first time and updated it to the latest patch. But when I start the game it comes up with several XML Load Error dialogues during InitXML. For example, the first message that comes up says
Failed Loading XML file xml\text\civ4gametext_bts_fourthroundtranslation.xml. [.\FXml.cpp:133] Error parsing XML File
etc, etc.. There are about 7 of these before the game loads. Inside the game, many names are incorrect, such as leader names, which show up as INIT_KEY_... and description keys for buildings are also sometimes messed up as well. I've tried clearing the cache, but the problem remains. I've tried reinstalling, and still the same. Help...

ok this is the right version. Now please open the civilizationIV.ini for Beyond the Sword and set everything with log in its name to 1, then start a new game and exit again. then post the content of your logs directory (my games\beyond the sword\logs)

This is the INIT log.

unfortunately this is not a way to completely get rid of corrupted installs, try this (its a re-post from a few dozen other threads - but I don't feel like recompiling it ;))

I would also recommend this - but make sure to make a really clean reinstall like I listed in the post I repost below - just omit anything for expansions you don't have :newyear:
If you do not have BtS you should patch to 1.74 and 2.13 ONLY after installing 1.61 and 2.08 respectively.

install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Vanilla
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS) (note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Vanilla, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here)
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.13 (download it fresh from here).

I know this feels redundant - but since I don't have many ideas, I'd like to see if anything in the complete logs gives any indication:
please open civilizationIV.ini (e.g. my games\beyond the sword\civilizationIV.ini) and set all items with log in their name to 1, then try starting a game, after that fails post the content of my games\beyond the sword\logs as a zip file.
I have to admit though that I am at a loss :(

How do you configure Windows Explorer to show hidden files?

Nevermind, I figured it out. Now I have deleted everything off my comp. I install disc 1 for Civ IV and instead of it asking me to install, it is asking me to play. Of course nothing happens when I click play. How do I get it to install?
