cant load saved games

Everytime I try to load my saved games it wont work. I cleared tha cache and it still doesnt work. Someone please help

- patch the game
- you can start a new game without problems?
- does it show an error message when you fail to load?
- have you tried to start civilization by doubleclicking a savegame?

i've downloaded both patches and installed them...i can start a new game no prob...and there isn't an error message when it fails to load it just goes back to my desktop

As stated in some postings before - same problem with me and some other users - I can start a game even with a large map without any problem.
Once I try to reload it I get error messages like "saved game failed to decompress data" "cannot load saved game". Than I just can press "Quit" and the game closes down and I return to the desktop.
This happenend with all patches - I currently have 1.61 installed.

I'm running XP SP 2 on an AMD Athlon XP2100+, 512 MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9550 with the latest OMEGA drivers.

Please, crunch, any idea what can help TheMessiah and myself?

Chdr, I think you have a different problem. Our problem doesn't show an error message. It just closes immediately. I uninstalled the game, re-installed it, and downloaded the 1.52(4?) patch. There weren't many changes, anyway, and that one worked fine.

I've already read about this problem but I've never heard about a solution. I seem to remember that for some people, to inability to load save games only starts when the save reaches certain size, e.g., 200 kB or so. So, uhm, play smaller maps... Or don't turn off civ at all...

I've been playing on Standard... I suggest starting a new game, saving immediately(when the file is small), and then loading it.
