Please help! Downloaded contender class GOTM 3, but my Civ 4 game doesn't recognize it as a save file.
No - you can blame your browser manufacturer for that one.buffettking said:Wow.... 10 years of playing Civ, and I am STILL an idiot.
Thanks for the help
Nobikaigan said:When I explore the saved games folder with 'My Computer' I see my other saved games in there as well as the GOTM file, but the icons look different. Like I said, this file extension has been renamed and civ4 chosen as application to open this file, but it still wont work right.
Any help would be great!!!!
gdgrimm said:With that setting unchecked, you'll be able to see the true name of the file, which makes it much easier to ensure that it has the correct extension.
You can't tell what you are doing if the final extension on the file name is hidden by Windows.Nobikaigan said:Thanks, I will do that and it will help, but I am pretty sure I typed the extension correctly, I double checked it a few times, so I don't believe that is the root of the problem.
Yes - that's the right place.Nobikaigan said:And by the way, I am taking the file from disk, putting in on my desktop and dragging it into the program files>firaxis games>Civ4>saves>single folder. Is that the correct path for the GOTM file? I may be doing that wrong as well. Once I start the game I am starting a single player game and trying to load a game. Seemed like the logical way to do it...
Adventurer File attached.Nobikaigan said:Making more sense now...and since I normally get my skirt lifted and given a good ol' rogering on prince level...I was going to play adventurer level! (I play all for fun, but like to survive into the AD if possible!!!) This will be my sixth civ 4 game, and my 2nd at monarch (first was soooooo ugly!) so if you would be so kind pls post the adv. game for me!
Thanks to all who have been helping me out!
The icon doesn't download with the file, it's displayed by Windows when Windows recognises the file type. It works that out purely from the last characters of the file name, from the last period to the end - the file extension.jayeffaar said:Could it be, maybe, that you're using a browser plugin like Adblock and that your have a filter that is filtering out the icon?
AlanH said:What browser do you use? We don't usually see this sort of problem on the usual suspects like InternetExploiterExploderExplorer, Firefox, Safari, ....
AlanH said:The problem arises if a browser tries to be too clever by half and adds an extra extension, usually '.txt', onto the end of the file's name when it downloads it. Then Windows doesn't know it's really a .Civ4SavedGame file and hides it from Civ4.
