I am, trying to open world builder and every time I do a error pops up with a memory allocation failure and the reason for that failure is because it says bad allocation. can someone walk me threw this please? how do I fix this? ALSO now every so many turns the same error pops up when I am playing and game crashes., I need to fix this, please help.

Not enough Ram to run the map and # of AI you selected.

If you do not have +3GB of ram and a video Card with at least 512Mb of DDR2 ram with shader 2.0 or better you Will get memory allocation failures (MAF's). I believe we have an FAQ that explains some of this.

Cut back on # of AI in a Game. Especially if you play with REV.

Do Not play GEM or Perfect Mongoose type maps larger than large.

Really need to list your OS and Computer Specs.

I checked the latest SVN version to make sure I had not done something to cause this and was able to get into WorldBuilder without problems on a Huge map (Rev on 20+ AI). It does sound like it may be a memory problem - hardware vrs. map size.

alright I checked, I have 3GBs of ram and I think I have a 2.0 shader but I'm not that certain. where is my shader located on my computer so I can check to see If I have a 2.0 shader? I turned viewports on as the fact section stated that turning it on would solve the MAF problem. I was able to get into world builder from my save but it still crashed when I clicked on add midevil techs with the same pop up.

what is OS and what are specs? and what maps are mongoose type maps and GEM(please list them)

OS = Operating System
Specs= Computer specifications: Type CPU, Type Video Card, etc.

Your Video card, look up manufacturer specifications, they will list type and level of shader tech on card.

Obviously you should not be adding Medieval Techs to your WB save.

Look in your C2C game set up for the Map types. We have a whole subforum section here on Maps. Check it out.

dell 2003 model
garghics card: nvidia getforce 7300 GT
shader 3.0

now what do I need to do?

my save game crashed again when a barbarian unis attacked one of my cities. and why shouldn't I add midevil techs in world builder? I added techs the first couple of times a few days ago and my world builder was just fine. The reason I went into world builder was so that I could test to see if a castle shows in my city but I guess I can ask you. do castles show in a city once they are built?

I am using hemispheres(map) standard size

I don't no what you mean by preforming a 3 gigabite switch, please explain and how do I do it?

... and why shouldn't I add medieval techs in world builder?...

The short answer is because it's cheating.

The long answer is... well, you didn't actually say what era you are in. If you are in the Renaissance, Industrial, Modern, or later, then adding such techs shouldn't be a big deal. However, if you are in the Classical, Ancient, or even Prehistoric eras then adding such techs would give you a huge and unreasonable advantage over the AI. It could even break the game, especially if you are still Prehistoric or Ancient. Seriously, just play the game honestly, then when you win you can actually feel good about accomplishing something. And because it's cheating and that's just wrong. [All opinions expressed here are my own and are not to be confused as being official opinions of C2C, CFC, or anyone at all unless they say otherwise.] Have a nice day.

I can't seem to locate the post and read threw the links? please link it and tell me what post number I need to start reading from. I don't see anything about switching 3gigabites of ram. the only thing that mentions switching is in the view ports link. what does that got to do with switching three gigabites of ram?

ah ha so thats what made it crash(I am in the prehistoric era by the way). thankyou oh and by the way I am not saving my cheat. I was only testing my game out to see if castles show in a city. I don't think I will remember what the map looks like anyway if I am not going constantly into world builder

It is linked in the FAQ thread, which is stickied in the forum.

You I need to perform the 3 gigabyte switch. That fixed it for me back in the days when I only had 3 gigabytes of RAM.

With that little (no offense) PC you will have to have the switch, your old 32 bit is VERY old compared to what it really needs to work correctly (again no offense).

okay looks like the crashes are solved finally. I tested it on my save game and a thousand years went by without a crash. all let you know if it crashes with the same problem again. thankyou everyone for your help.

my game crashed again but lasted a little longer. the same error popped up. I followed the seven steps to switch my memory to make the switch steps but just to let you know when I restarted my computer it restarted as usual but the computer never prompted me to change to three gigabites or not? I have a saved copy of the original ini file before I changed it but I don't seem to be having any computer booting problems. did I do something wrong? now what do I do? maybe my computer is already using 3gigabites as I checked the memory and it says 3 gagabites.

Press the "start" button, type in "msconfig", click on it, go to "boot," take a "snip" of it.

I'm not understanding what you want me to do as I clicked on start in my computer and typed mysconfig and control panel pops up, not what is shown in your picture. am I supposed to go into system configuration? where is that On my computer. are you wanting me to take a pic of my ini file? I checked my ini file and I think I messed up as the ini file does not look like what it did when I first went into it.

All i need right now is a pic of how your system is booted, as i mentioned above, just a snip(pic) of it.

first I need instructions on how to post a pic here and secondly I need to know where on my computer to take the pic from and instructions on how to get there please. I'm sorry but I'm a low tech person so bear with me
