can't open world builder

first I need instructions on how to post a pic here and secondly I need to know where on my computer to take the pic from and instructions on how to get there please. I'm sorry but I'm a low tech person so bear with me

i just informed you EXACTLY how to do it above, and a snip is part of an accessory program in Windows, so you can take a pic of what you are talking about, same as i did above in the attachment.

I made a mistake and I actually have a 2002 model. also I can't find system configutation, where is it located on my computer? and I don't think I have snip as I looked under my accessory's and didn't see snip however i do have a program that allows me to take snapshots.

No offense SO, but your instructions were great... for someone who already knows what they are doing. As Civ4newbie has stated, he does not. He needs a higher level of detail. On that note:

@Civ4newbie: I am using Windows 7. If you are not, you may have to adjust these instructions to your Operating System.
To begin, click on the Start icon, hover over "all programs", and when that shifts to a list of folders, click on "Accessories". In this folder should be a program called "Snipping Tool", at the least I have it. Play around with this program a bit, it's really helpful. (Sorry, it's been a while since I've used it myself, so I cannot give exact instructions here. As I recall it was easy to learn, but that's me, and your mileage may vary.) If you don't have that exact program, any one that allows you to take a screenshot will do. Heck, you could just press the "Print Screen" button, find that on your hard drive (also cannot help there, as different companies put it in different places), and edit it down to the useful data.
Next, do as SO said above, which is open the Start menu, type in "msconfig" (In your reply you said you typed "mysconfig" which would confuse the computer. Do not put in a "y" this time). When you click on it, it should take you to a location called "System Configuration". If it does not take you there, find that location any way you can. In that location should be a tab called "Boot", as shown in SO's screenshot. Use the Snipping Tool (or whatever program you have) to take a screenshot of that particular line. Find where on your computer the screenshot is. IIRC the Snipping Tool lets you choose where to put the saved screenshot, so that is one reason it is better.
Once you know where the file is, come back to the forum here. To post the screenshot, use the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the Quick Reply pane. Scroll down once that loads, and in the "Additional Options" pane there is a button for "Manage Attachments". Click on that. A small window will open with attachment options. In the section for "Upload file from your computer" click the "Browse" button and find your screenshot file. Once you've found it, click "Upload", then once it does, close that small window. Type your message, then hit submit reply. The rest you already know.

I hope none of the above was offensive in any way, I'm just trying to be helpful. /Maximum Verbosity ;)

I typed in msconfig, I made sure several times that I typed it correctly(no y) and once again the control panel poped up in staid, not system configuration. is there another way to get to it? I'm searching
edit: never mind, you forgot to say RUN.
edit: I can't find the snip program, I have windows xp, I looked under accesory's. I have a printer scanner program that takes snapshots but it doesn't work. I pressed print screen but I don't know where to locate the picture, where would that be?

1. Either click on the button two (2) to the right of the text color button (looks like a square with a couple of mountains on it; Or Use the post reply button on the bottom left just after the last post instead of typing in the Quick Reply box. Then scroll down to the section that says 'additional options' and look for 'attachments'.

2. Presuming you are using Windows XP: Click Start. Click Run. Type 'msconfig' (no quotes). Click OK button. Click on the Boot.ini tab. *I believe this is also where you would make the changes described in the link*

Did you save the game first? If you try to go into worldbuilder without saving it first, it might not have a file to edit.

well Ive been playing the game and am at somewhere in 6000-7000bc and I saved the game every so often. I also mentioned here that my regular game crashes as well, not just in world builder.

that is because you dont have the 3GB switch done, as far as i can see.

well, I told you already that I followed the 7 steps and when my computer restarted it didn't promt me to switch to 3 megabites. what did i do wrong?

You HAVE to follow the instructions carefully, no changes otherwise your booting might be compromised.

I give up, i did follow the instructions carefully, I even triple checked it, I do not notice any mistakes, if your not going to help me any further then let me know. I guess I will just stop playing. this is really disappointing, knowing that I will never be able to play my dream game expecailly with multimaps. oh well, I still got the call to power forever future mod to play with.

We'd like to help you further, but without knowing exactly what is happening, there is no way to help. I'm not personally familiar with the memory switching process, but from what SO said above it seems that he feels that if the steps were followed then it should have worked. You are saying that it did not work, and are asking for more help. To be able to help further we'd either need to be standing next to you while you do the steps (not really possible) or we'd need to know where the process went wrong. Unless you can provide such information, then there's not much more we can do. Sorry. The only thing I can think of offhand is that the instructions were written for Windows7 and since you are using Windows XP there are minor things that need to be done slightly differently.

At this point, I would recommend that you find a computer professional in your area and consult with them / have them do it for you. Yes, it would cost a bit of money, but it would get it done and properly. I've had good experiences with Geek Squad, but I have no idea if they are in your area. Check your local telephone directory or look online. Find a store that sells computers, they usually have an in-store repair service department. Good luck to you.

Nope written for XP Professional. But can be altered for regular XP or Vista also.
I dont like it when a person, says what was posted above, about then playing a different mod if people are not going to help out ie: "I guess I will just stop playing", HECK thats all we have been doing is helping, not a very profound statement, and is irritating actually.

I dont want to tell you what to do, or how your financial situation is, BUT it would be more appeasing if you had a newer PC than an older type PC, again no offense.

You know what? That was my reaction too...

I'm sorry everyone for the attitude, I overeacted out of frustration and being unpaitent. I aprreciate the help and the decently quick responses. I will try again but this time I will have more patience. I deleted the mod from my system so I will have to download it again but I guess for now I will just try to make the switch before I download the mod. This is probally going to take more time but I will just have to be more patient. I don't want you guys to think that you wasted your time helping me and then all of a sudden I just leave. so where were we. are you saying I should try again? and do you guys see my picture?

picture of what? If your talking about post 28, then yes, but its NOT the correct booting for the 3GB switch.

btw IF you dont understand the instructions, do a goggle search for the 3Gb Switch and you will have ALOT of choices there also. Just make sure its for YOUR PC type (ie XP Pro)

I called someone and they said I already have 3 gigabites of ram, mabey that is why nothing is happening. and I tried it again but nothin. this should comfirm the 3 gagabites
now what do I do?
