I've downloaded scenarios from CivFan but they won't play. I've a old PowerMac running 8.1, and my game is Civ II Multiplayer Gold Edition with the 1.1.1 patch. I can download a game, unstuffit and place it in the scenario folder. But when I start Civ II to play it the new scenario won't work. The folder is there {ie., "Darklord"}, but the .scn file doesn't show. Also, I notice that the CD scenarios {ie., "Alexandr.scn"} have a special Civilization icon {Pyramid/Globe} called a 'Civilization Scenario Document', but the downloaded scenario just shows up as a simpletext document. Any ideas?

That because the PC version uses different file formats than the mac version
PC uses .gifs for units, terrain etc.Mac uses .pict
PC uses .wav for sound.MAC uses .aiff
mac uses different fonts, sizes and stuff.

The scenario must be converted. There are some scenario conversion utilities but they only do so much."Big" scenarios have lots of files with pc fonts and what not.Much of this must be done manually.
Also many scenarios come with .bat files that load different events and units etc for scenarios with different "stages".>bat is useless on mac.You need an applescript or you have to load files manually.

Now that you are thoroughly confused and intimidated ;)

I post this LINK to the mac section at Apolyton.AFAIK it has the largest selection of scenarios allready converted and ready to roll :)..I recommend Red Front. It has a delete events and an applescript for loading the seasons automatically included.

The delete events is an important thing if you play scenarios with multiple events.txt(s).It can be used for any scenario. Its a must have for "big" scenarios.
You can also find the scenario converter utilities and extensive instructions for "manually" converting yourself. Its not that hard.
