According to our Code of Laws 1.A.III, "Only the Citizens Assembly may decide [...] where to build new cities." This poll is set up to honor that.

Discussions about where to build our first city, aka the Capital, can be found primarily in those two threads:

This poll is a binding Initiative (as defined by the Constitution). It's public and will be open for 2 days, therefore closing about one and a half hour before the Game Session 1 starts (Wed., 18 Jan., 24:00 UTC, 7pm EST).

Could we have a bit more discussion on this before polling? Not even 24 hours have passed yet.

EDIT: I realize that the next session is Wednesday, but still - putting the poll up tomorrow AM, allowing for discussion would be most helpful. In addition, attaching a screen shot with clear labels so that voters can VISUALLY identify what they are voting on should be attached.

Our law specifies a binding poll to be open for at least 2 days. Opening the poll tomorrow, and you'll be violating that. The discussion can still go on, there is nothing forcing anyone to vote right now (though I do have the impression that many people have indeed already made up their minds).

The idea of a highlighted map is good, though, we should keep that in mind next time. (Actually I did exactly that in the Warmup Demogame, don't know why I forgot it here - maybe just because of too much time pressure.)

It's not like I'm snapping the job away from the Censor. This poll had to be set up *now*, and any citizen is entitled to do it.

in that case you should have contacted the deputy censor (me).

i say settle there, that way we can begin work immediately and we get a lake and river

I don't want to get into a pissing contest here, but are you blaming me for the fact you didn't pay attention yourself?! As Deputy Censor you should keep (or at least help keeping) an eye on upcoming votings, and this one was definitely foreseeable.

for everyone: here is a pic of the starting location:

so if we had a 24 hour discussion starting today, by 1:00 AM, EST the poll would be set up tommorow. also, a 24 hour discussion is required as well.

If we do move at all, let it be 1 to the north east, so we can get the pigs

Yup. Yet another reason to overturn the current Code of Laws. I note that the current proposal by Octavian is 24 hours required. Discussion is always better than polling.

As a suggestion to everyone, if you're posting a poll like this in the future (Do X in location Y), the inclusion of a map with the locations clearly marked and labeled is extremely helpful.

EDIT: Robopig - from Section 3.A.II.C of the Code of Laws (Polling Standards)
IIC. All official polls must be open for a minimum of 2 days to be binding, however it is recommended that binding polls be open from 3 to 4 days if possible.

Given that we're still working in a legal grey area, I see no problem with Blkbird taking the initiative to post this poll, though ravensfire is correct in noting that the discussion should've been allowed to run for some time longer, and that a good graphic would've made the poll clearer. In any case, it's too late now. :)

I hereby validate this poll as official.

The 24h discussion is not required by Law, it's required by the proposed polling standard which hasn't been officially adopted yet. Since in this situation we would have to violate one thing or the other, the proposed polling standard holds no ground against the Law.

OMG 27 VOTES FOR IN PLACE!!!!!! The people have spoken!!

Now warch out, their might be a surprise turn around for 2 tiles to the right. You never know what could happen. ;) Cue drum solo
