So, I had an idea to create a civilization for my home region of the United States. Behold, the Cascadian Civilization!

The Cascadian civilization represents the culture of the Pacific Northwest, particularly the American states of Washington and Oregon, and the Canadian province of Vancouver.

Colors: Green and Blue
Terrain Bias: Forest
Leader: Seattle
Chief Seattle (known as Si'ahl in his native Duwamish tongue) was a Chief of the Duwamish tribe in Washington State. He is known for pursuing a policy of peace with white settlers, while still advocating for native rights. His most famous legacy is the city of Seattle, named for him.
Unique Ability: Pacific Rainforest
+1 Production from Lumber Camps. Universities get +1 Research from worked unimproved Forest tiles.

Unique Unit: Super Hornet
The Super Hornet replaces the Jet Fighter, and gets a +50% bonus against enemy naval units.
The Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is the premiere fighter for the United States Navy. It is a multirole fighter designed specifically to launch from carriers, and can carry both air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles. The Super Hornet also holds a special place in Cascadian culture as the preferred fighter of the Blue Angels, the Navy's demonstration flight team, who have become a fixture of Seattle's annual Seafair.

Unique Building: Public Library
The Public Library replaces the Library. It grants a +2% bonus to Research for every Library in your nation (max +10%), as well as +1 Research per 2 Citizens. It also has no maintenance requirements. Once the player researches the Internet, the Public Library also grants a +2 Production bonus.
Founded in 1942, the King County Library System is the busiest library in the United States, with 22 million items in circulation among its 48 locations, as well as a massive digital archive. It is considered one of the best libraries in the world.

I've tried to make them a balanced, science-focused Civ. Their UA is fairly powerful, but the two elements actually work against each other, forcing players to choose between having Lumber Camps or getting that science bonus. And while the Public Library is awesome (its bonus represents the interconnected nature of KCLS), the unique unit is endgame-only.

If it is too powerful, I've had a few other ideas for a UA. One would be an extra Food bonus from Fish, or even a Wealth bonus, representing our massive fishing industry (and the fact that our salmon is the best in the world). Another would be an aircraft production bonus, representing Boeing and its factories.

I've also considered doing a wider project that would remove the American civilization entirely and replace it with several American civs. In this, I could just give the B17 to the Cascadians. My other planned ideas would create the civilizations of New England (maritime and commerce-focused), Dixie (unknown, probably military or cultural), Texas (definitely military), California (cultural), and perhaps New York (a single city-civ that can't gain any additional cities at all, but would have some truly spectacular abilities to compensate).

Any reason why the Cascadians would have the B17? Was it manufactured or invented there? Does NY have to be a one city civ? It has other towns, like Albany, Syracuse, Buffalo etc.

A Dixie civ can be part agricultural to reflect its past. I guess a growth bonus from a UI or UB?

I'm pretty sure the southeast would be religion + military focused. It's not called the Bible Belt for nothing.

Probably. I've thought of a few tentative ideas for the others:

New England:
Leader: John Adams
UU: Ironsides (replacement for the Frigate)
I might also give them the Minuteman. Their UA would obviously be something maritime. Maybe +1 Gold or Food from Fishing Boats?

Dixie:
Leader: Either Jefferson Davis or Robert E. Lee. Davis was of course the actual president, but Lee was the guy who actually did stuff for the Confederacy. My concern is being able to write something decent for the intro speech.
UU: Reb (replacement for Rifleman). Need a better name, not sure of what makes it better. I'm thinking of giving it a promotion called "Rebel Charge" that gives it a bonus when attacking.
Dixie has to have something to do with plantations. This could either be their UA, or maybe they'll get a super-plantation UI. And you're right, they should be faith-based to some degree.

Texas:
Leader: Sam Houston
No good idea for their UU. They'll get some bonus from Pastures, and maybe they get faster expansion ("Big Texas").

California:
Leader: Not sure. I could try to dig up someone from early in Californian history. I could use either Ronald Reagan or Arnold Schwarzenegger (actors-turned-governors). Or I could have fun and use Emperor Norton.
They'd absolutely be a culture-based civ. Their UB should be something related to Hollywood. And I have no idea at all what their UU would be.

And the New York civ doesn't represent New York State, just New York City.

There's this book called "Nine Nations of North America"....it divides North America (Canada, the States, Mexico, and the Caribbean islands) into 9 regions, based on their cultural, economical, political characteristics.

The regions that make up Cascadia (Pacific Northwest) is called ecotopia, but other than that, I think it goes very well with the direction of your project! :)

This site explains each of these fictional nations in detail, with statistics and all :P (This being my first post and all, I know I sound very conspicuous and....advertising-ly, but the whole North American regionalization issue is something I am very interested it, and I could resist stepping out of the 'lurker' status)

I hope I can contribute further to this once my university application season is over! Until then, I sincerely wish you luck on this! :D

I'd love to see these civs in game. I've been working stop-start on a map of north America for use in a 'second civil war' scenario.

The leaders would need some purely cosmetic changes from what you've suggested, and uniques would probably need to be adjusted, but having a base would be great!

Hey, not sure if you're still working on this project, but I've been working on Deseret (Mormons/Utah), and Republic of Texas civilizations. Maybe we can swap ideas?

I've been working on basically my own version of this mod, specifically for a Civil War Era scenario.

So far I have:

Civilization: Kingdom of Deseret
Leader: Brigham Young
Flag: Beehive
Color: Gold and Brown
Capitol: Salt Lake City
UA: Latter Day Saints- +1 food from deserts. Missionaries can settle cities.
UU: Nauvoo Legionnaire- Replaces Rifleman. Can be purchased cheaply with faith. Can spread religion. Weaker than a regular rifleman.
UB: Mormon Temple- Replaces Temple. +2 Production/+2 Faith

Civilization: Texas Republic
Leader: Sam Houston
Flag: Star
Color: Black and White
Capitol: Houston
UA: Come and Take It- Siege units receive bonuses against cities and fortified units.
UU: Texas Ranger - Replaces Cavalry. Starts with March promotion.
UB: Ranch - Replaces Stable. +2 Food and Production from pastures.

Civilization: California Republic
Leader: William B. Ide
Flag: Bear
Color: White and Red
Capitol: Sonoma
UA: Eureka!- +1 Culture from Mines and Quarries.
UU: Pioneer- Replaces Scout and Settler. Functions as both.
UB: Hydraulic Mining Sluice- Replaces Mint. +1 Production/+2 Gold from gold and silver worked by city.

I have some of the art done for Deseret, but otherwise haven't moved on to the other two civilizations. Other civs I've been considering including in this scenario are Cascadia, English Canada, Russian Alaska, and the Mexican Empire, along with the United and Confederate States and Shoshone. Any advice on an industrial-era Cascadia?
