I know if you build castles in a city it makes it the capital but it also reduces the maintaince in other near by cities...has anyone built multiple castles if they have a large early civ...your capital would keep moving but I think it would lessen your maintaince costs?? In a game last night I had workers on strike and lost almost all my workers and military units...just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this and if they let you build multiple castles in different cities or if you can only build one..?

You're confusing castles and palaces. The Palace marks your capital and reduces maintenance costs in nearby cities; you can move your capital by building a Palace in another city - that then becomes your capital. Versailles and Forbidden Palace are two wonders that also serve to reduce maintenance costs in nearby cities. Courthouses also reduce maintenance in their cities by 50%.

Castles are city improvements that become available with (?-something relatively late) and obsolete with Economics (?); a pretty short lifespan. Before obsolesence, they provide a little culture, some defense, and a trade route.

Your units went on strike and disbanded because your economy crashed (hard!). Check the forums and strategy guide for tips on how to get the economy up and running ("COTTAGES!", as per DaveMcW).

Happy Civing!
