It's nice that the game counts how many units each civ lossed during a game, but why doesnt it count the amount of people that died due to war and/or say famine. That kind of statistic might be interesting to some folks, me namely.
Whadaya guys think?

I think it's a pointless luxury to add something like that. It doesn't affect the game in any way.

I think it sounds like a nice idea Ecco, but then I like animated battle scenes too <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/enforcer.gif" border=0> <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/Instagib.gif" border=0>

Stats stats and more stats! I say it sounds like a great idea! I love looking at the stats fo the game, so the more the better! If you were a bloddthirsty ruler, it might be interesting to see how many "citizens" you slaughtered in your reign of terror.....

Sure, it's not a necessity, but I'm all for it

Ecco: "Well, lets bring those on too. Like in Centurion or smthng. But that might take up a lot of time, while statistics can be looked up when you want to."

I kind of like the idea. I've always been a sucker for facts and figures, even unnecessary ones. I wouldn't mind such an addition, as long as they didn't make it count for anything (like having civilian casualties take points off your final score, or something ridiculous like that).

I found out something interesting today while playing GOTM.

It seems if your spies got captured, the casualty window of civ2 does not count that as a loss. I lost 4 spies in the game so far and the casulaty still doesn't list spies. weird, isn't it?

Thunderfall - how is that in any way related to the topic?

Just kiddin.

Yeah, perhaps diplomats aren't really units, so they dont get destroyed or anything.

I really lik'em. I think we should add more of them in the game.

Stats are great. As far as im concerned the more the better.

Most of the facts in the demographics screen are actually pointless but they still make interesting reading none the less. I can't see the harm in a few more stats certainly.

Another misleading military statistic is the one for cruise missiles. A cruise missile can be destroyed:
1) After a successful attack on an enemy unit
2) From an unsuccessful attack on an enemy unit (usually a Battleship, AEGIS Cruiser or unit hiding behind a SAM battery)
3) Run out of fuel
4) By an enemy unit

From memory the F2 statistics only counts option 1 (I haven't had an enemy catch one yet so don't know about 4). It definately does not count BOTH 1 & 2.

Personally I think it should count all 4, so you know how many you have produced and "used".

I seem to remember the casualty list working differently in Civ I ... in that game the other Civ's casualties columns were a measure of what I'd inflicted on them, and not the overall total (i.e. including casualties from AI vs AI battles).

The Civ II figures are fine but I'd also like to see the old method return since it was a nice way of directly comparing my losses versus another civ's losses when we were in the midst of a war.

I agree with Thunderfall that spies should be in the casualty stats. I use them a lot, and have no real way of tracking them as they are used in the line of duty... but I do use a lot of them. If tracked, I think spies would lead my casualty list almost every game... that is because I consider it a casualty when they are "captured" for any reason. Same thing for diplomats. To me, it is a unit expended that I can't use again, and if I produced it and it does not survive the game, a stat somewhere should reflect it.

I'd also like to see cumulative stats on total shields, trade, gold, science, and food produced. Further, I'd like to see a city summary of the same info, and an automatic result ranking of all cities based on their economic output in each category. It would be only a slight additional programming effor for each city to track the use of its units (eg, amout of damage done by that cities' units, or economic benefit of engineers/frieght).

Computers are ideal for tracking such things, and it is a waste for the program not to track and report it all for us empire-builders!

BTW, I personally turn off the extra graphics when I play... I'd trade the wonder movies for stats... even a crude HTML-style stat output!
