Since many people (Xen to name one :) ) would like to see the Cataphracht instead of the dromon, what stats should it be given? The most realistic would be a 4-4-2 knight (but that's the samurai)... Maybe 5-4-2 and make it really expensive... or would it be to powerful?

Why UUs of the same stats is frowned upon, I do not understand. Especially if they are of different civ groups (Asian, European, etc.).

cataphract stat possibilites- as proposed through lenghty discussions several months ago in acombination of threads and PMs between Kryten, and myself, as well as several others whom i forget in specific (Oda nabunaga comes to mind though)

A)5-3-2

B)4-3-2 +1 hit point

C)4-3-2 with a defensive bomabrd capability, and zone of control

in all cases, I advocate, to represent real life, where the Byzantine empire eventually had to drop the cataphracts from service to to sheer expenses, that the upkeep of the units be modded for two, as opposed to one per turn, if a generic luxury could be set (to where ANY luxury would do) could be set as a requirment, that would be cool, but as such, only hase a place on the world map.

-there is a link to utahjazz's cataphract, and Kryten has plans to relase an alternate version more suitable for ROme (a late Roman-mid byzantine catapgract, based on utahjazzs' unit) as well as an eastern cataphract- the kind used by Parthia

why not simply 5.3.2?

Some people have argued that 5.3.2 doesn't make much impact on the game.

How about 6.3.2 90 shields! (I'm think about the Sipahi when I thought about the stats, powerful for its age, but pretty expensive)

WHOOOPS!

that was a typo- I meant 5-3-2

I'll edit it now

I've read that the cataphraht was a heavily armored cavalry... So it's the defensive stats that really should be increased...

if that's true, then iguess the stats may have to be 3.5.2 or maybe 4.5.2 but at higher expense.

I think they should give the cataphract either a 4.4.2 stats and change the Samurai, or give it 4.3.2 +1. That is what I did in my mod, and it is pretty nice.

Just because they had armor doesn't mean something is better on defense than offense.

It meant that they were harder to kill (this could be when attacking too). In the case of a Cataphract, it made them pretty slow as well.

I was refering to patronr383's comment

take a look at history- we see that cataphracts wer emore then proficient in both attacking, and defending the empire, but they, combined with a skillful general, like Belisarius,Liberius,Narses, or the EMperors Heraclius II, and Basil I & II, they were be FAR the most deadley offensive troops at the time, besting even the huns.

*as a note, dont bring up the mongol horseman crap again, the two troops never saw action against each other, and if anything it woul dbe the cataphract, whom had a more flexible tacticle role who would have have won the day, if all other factors were even

MY GUESS: 4-4-2 with ZOC costing 80 shields and 90 if it has defensive bombardment.

OT: Xen, you changed your sig to say good and strong cataphracts, what you don't want cataphract with -hp? :p

what? my sig is more dedicated to the empress then any games playing peices- as for the cataphract, I did mean elite ones ;)
