Caveman 2 Cosmos

Is there anywhere else to download this from? Just discovered this mod and decided to reinstall the game after a few years of not playing so I could try it...but the download fails with the message: C:\Users\Owner\Downloads\Caveman2Cosmos v25.7z.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

It's not just this mod as I had the same issue when I tried to download FFH as well but still doesn't help figure out where the problem is...

What is your ZIP opener, i always use 7zip, it seems to work the best.

To me, the negative traits are just an altogether bad idea. Some people might like them for flavor reasons. In my experience, it turned choosing a leader from picking one based on their strengths for whatever type of game I wanted to play into "alright, now which of these is going to be the least painful to get stuck with?"

I'm trying to be as constructive with my criticism as possible, because I really do love the mod. The negative traits were just a bad idea though, in my opinion.

Actually isn't that really what is going on in the world today!! Look at the USA, do you want a Mormon running the USA, or a person that says one thing and does the other (he has sided with the republicans more than any other democratic leader), not much of a choice here?? You just got to take the bad with the worst, i guess??

Exactly, it's what I want, not what's in the world now. What Leader/Religion/Nation do I want to run in my game. So, yes SO, I have a lot of choice in my game.
If I don't want bad buildings (according to me) I just won't build them. If there's a place I don't want to set a city at I don't but place it elsewhere. If I don't want to keep England's London where it is I raze it and move it to a for me better position (starting from scratch but that's my choice). If I don't want a certain Negative Trait I don't play that Leader, which unfortunately cuts down a lot on what Leaders I want to chose from to play.
That's what the Negative Traits are doing currently, limiting my choice of leader and nation. Some nations I don't want to play, some traits I don't want to have.
Some leaders in nations I don't want have the negative traits I could play with but not the positive ones I want. Some leaders in nations I want to play have bad negative traits, or don't have the positive traits I want.
I have to look for and find A) a nation I can consider playing, B) a leader in said nation with positive traits I want to play, and C) does not have any of the negative traits I abhor.
This is very limiting and very much "less is more" rather than "more is more".

I'm waiting on the redesigned traits and will give my opinion on those once they are around. Until then it probably would have been a good idea to not have them in v25, they were a negative addition to v24 as it is.

Cheers

If. *wink* Until then I'm anxiously awaiting the remodelled traits. Looking forward to trying some or most of them out, depends on how they look, of course.

Cheers

@BlueGenie

Well if the dynamic traits ever get put in you should be able to mold your empire to the traits you want. And not even the same traits the whole game. You could start with aggressive/warmonger traits and end up with peaceful/builder traits.

At the "current" status i would have to agree, but alot of stuff is being re-worked and withOUT comments like you and others are making, not much can be done about traits. So all the comments, good or bad are a welcome to this mod, always has been and always will be, keep the ideas coming, and especially the suggestions on what to do with them, its easy to say, something doesn't work, but with the suggestion on how to re-work it, would be 10X better, IMHO.

While I was drifting of to sleep last night I was thinking what factors made C2C so successful, and I have narrowed it down to 3 things ...

1. C2C Sub-Forum - Without our own sub-forum we would be lost in the RoM/AND modmod section where no one could find us and have to sort though our posts as well as other mods posts.

2. SVN - Without the SVN we could not quickly share changes with each other. We would have to depend upon attachments and more often we would probably conflict with each other all the time and never have the same version.

3. Save Compatibility - The fact we can make a chnage and not have to start a new game is HUGE! If not for this feature we would not be as far as we are now.

Many thanks to the C2C team, past contributors, testers and players who have made C2C possible. Even a year ago I would not have imagined what we can do now. So thank you all! :goodjob:

I do and I did give a bunch of suggestions in the Traits thread. *smile*

Seconded!!;)

The best thing I can come up with in regards to the negative traits without scrapping them is to nerf them a little bit and to add an equal(or as close to as possible) bonus to go along with the negative.

That makes more sense to me than "well if you choose this leader you're screwed in this regard", changing instead to "okay well they're a bit weaker in area A, but that's because they're stronger in area B".

Another option would be to include a tech or civic of some sort that would negate it altogether, like "leadership education" or something like that. If we made it a civic idea, it could be layered so that the negative trait is worse early on and becomes more tolerable as you get more advanced until it's non-existent(or nearly so) later on.

I imagine it would be hard to tie in traits with civics though, but I am not a modder so maybe you fine folks can cook something up.

Apparently the last time I logged in was in October of 2009. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I've been loving the mod for the past few versions, but I hate the "negative" third trait for leaders you added in from Realism Invictus. That's part of the reason why I didn't like that mod.

Is there any way to remove it? When I say hate, I mean it's enough that I logged in for the first time in almost 3 years to say something about. That's literally my only complaint about the mod itself.

Inspired by the bolded part and my own dislike of the negative traits system, I decided to go through all the CIV4LeaderHeadInfos and simply remove the said traits.
I posted the workaround to the mod mod section:

Just checking if I've been forgotten about among all the other discussion...Don't think that asking what zip opener I have is exactly helpful if I can't actually get the zip downloaded...

Winrar can be downloaded and used for free. After 40 days it'll start nagging you about buying it, but the program never locks up or anything of that sort.

That should work. If not, let us know and we'll try and help you further.

@Thunderclan
Not sure I did it correctly but try pasting this link into your browser and open it with your torrent program, if you have one. If it works, great, if not someone else will have to do it correctly for you. *smile*

Ciadude: I have winrar as well but still don't see how that matters until after the mod is downloaded...

BlueGenie: Looks like it's not right since no torrents show up on the list once the program opens...

My mistake, I misunderstood.

@BlueGenie
Upload the torrent file to Mediafire.com, I think that will be much easier to work with than a magnet file.

Ok. Shouldn't show up right away as it's a magnet link. It needs to "find" it or something first. As long as it doesn't say that it's failed it could still find it. Give it a minute or two.

Edit@ciadude2: I don't have an account there and I'm not sure if I need to upload it into a tracker or something for it to work. I could easily have uploaded the .torrent file here if it was as simple as that.
*ponders* Wonder if I can upload it to PirateBay. I'll check it out.

Cheers

EDIT:
Ok, no idea if it works but I've upoaded it to a torrent site. The magnet will either work now or you'll need to get it from this page:
https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/7499292

Ignore the big signs for Download. That's advertisement. The real link is the underlined green text stating "Get this Torrent".

Cheers

I just started playing Version 25. Here are two problems I have found:

1. There is no Leaderhead picture for Dom Pedro II.
2. There is no third (negative) trait for any of the Italian and Polish Leaderheads.

I also have a question. I have never seen the little water drop and other icon (soil?) that changes from plot to plot. Can someone tell me what this information is and how it is beneficial?
