Hi all, I'm new here and have one question about the Civ3 game. Is the downloadable version as good as the cd version of the game? Any problems noted? I want to get my Hubby a good netbook to use at work because It is small and he only wants to be able to "play his game" on it. doesn't want to have to set up an added on external optical drive. Thanks for any input on this... I am also going to have to tell him of this site. He is an avid user of Civ3 and would love it

Do pay attention to the screen resolution on netbooks, though. Civ3 needs at least 1024x768, while a lot of netbooks have 1024x600. While you can finnegal Civ3 to work on some of those, it's certainly not an optimal experience.

I've only played the download version (I used Impulse, but Steam and Direct2Drive at least also have it) a couple times, but from what I can tell it was identical.

Civ3 works quite well on lower resolutions, actually. I played it for a few years on 800x600. The only thing that doensn't work is when you try to change the rules in the editor.

The game should be the same. The CD version by default installs everything to the hard drive, but the CD is required for copy protection. Everything runs off the hard drive.

I could never make it work at 1280x720. The specified minimum resolution is 1024x768, and all the interface screens (intro screen, city screens, adviser screens) are 1024x768 and don't scale. How did you make it work at 800x600, and how did the interface screens work?
