CFC Chess Championship 2006!

Basically, if you have a "non provisional" rating i.e. there's no 'p' after the rating, which happens when you've played at least 25 games, they 'protect' your rating against beginners.
Players with established ratings will have their ratings protected when playing against unrated or provisional players. A protected rating can remain the same or go up, but never go down, even when the player loses the game. We implemented rating protection because we want to encourage our members to play against newcomers and help them establish their ratings without putting their own at risk.
So if someone gets an established rating and then loses to a porovisional player, the provisional rating goes up but the protected one doesn't go down. So that artificially increases the overall ratings 'pool', whereas a 'pure' rating system maintains a constant total.

Registered as sanabas if anybody wants a game. I used to be a reasonable player, but haven't played for 10 years.

Ypu just challenged me are you replaceing greenpeace for the tourny or just looking for fun?

Just for fun at the moment, hopefully I'll do the tourney challenges in a day or two when greenpeace defaults properly.

I just PMed him. He has until the end of the month to join the tournament.

Then I'm very lucky I got to drop a queen in an unoficial game:D

Yeah - he's just expired against me too.

btw its your move bath

On the positive side, sanabas has just dropped a bishop against me ;)

Yeah. It was a fairly spectacular implosion, that move. Good to get them out of your system in non-tourney games.

Yeah I had a decent advantage till that blunder. Out of curiosity why did you go classical attack then castle Q-side? typically you castle K-side in classical and Q-side in the Yugoslav. (My preffered attack as white.)

Yep. I am ever so slightly prone to brainfarts while playing.

ummm, because? Just looking through the game, my main reason for going Q-side was that my K-side pawns had all moved, so castling would just leave my king out in the open. I thought I had a decent advantage, I'd swapped my rook for a knight & bishop, I was feeling confident. As for openings, I'm reading through the opening library there, and learning some stuff, but it's been a long time since I played, and I don't know names or stuff for most of them.

Typicaly 6. Be2 is a more passive move and you don't attack with the K-pawns. 6. Be3 is a more aggressive move where you do and castle Q-side. That was really a good game though till my brain suffered a failure that id:cry:  :( Oh well GG man;)

Fair enough. And yeah, was a fun game, it's nice to be getting rid of some of the rust. And for everyone else, here's the board when the fubar (24 ....Qxe4) happened:
