CGW's Civ3 Preview & Civ3 SCREENSHOTS!

AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!

Okay. Okay, I won't over react and spam like last time an update came out. THIS IS AWESOME! I especially like the "one resource supplies a nation" idea. I mean, if there's fruits in Ontario, they get them in BC too. The graphics are truely amazing, too good for my computer. I noticed the screen shots were in different views. The one that shows lots of units is zoomed way out compared to the one showing cities. I SAW BORDERS!!!! YES! Finally, they're incorporating the best improvement they could ever make in a game! No more "We insist you withdraw your troops"!!!

One precaution however: It's starting to look like CTP. The borders work exactly like CTP, surrounding the city the exact same way. Also, the "armies" idea is a bit like CTP.....

1) the game looks awesome! i can't wait!
2) what's CTP?
3) will the borders from different cities join together to make a "empire border" type of thing?

Dan, those people graphics in the City Screen look like Firaxians to me, am I right?

...and there all men by the looks of it.Just what kind of game is this?

CTP = Call to Power...a civ-type game by Activision.

If CtP2 is anything to go by, the city borders will merge to form the empire border, as you call it.

Actually, when I saw the map, I immediately thought "CtP2", as well. It looks so alike...

But the city screen looks really cool.

CTP HAS great graphics. I just think that I cringe a little bit when I think about armies, and some of the other stuff sounds a little CTPish to me also. Please don't make Call to Power again. I already got excited once about that genre and blew $50 on it. I am very afraid of buying Civ 3 and then realizing that I already own the greatest computer game ever made, Civ 2. As Tom Petty once sang "The waiting is the hardest part."

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at THAT man.

I am soooo saaad!!!! This is just CTP2 Over again, just with different units and a little new graphic. I really had high expectations to Civ3. The only thing that impress me is the new sea-land line. Try to borrow CTP2 from one you know, and you'll be just as dissappointed as me.

I'm REALLY hoping that Civ4 will be much more different. And com'on Sid Meier, you CAN do better than copying CTP2. Please Take a year more to your game creating and then show me something NEEEW!!!!!

An extremely dissapointed CivFanatic......

Those screen shots are cool, but i hope that this game is as simple to play as civ 2 and that it doesnt take days to figure out how it works. that is when i am a believer.

My reply became too long for a typical response so I have moved it from here to "Have some respect (moved from and re: screenshots thread)"

I noticed that about fundamentalism going away too. I guess I'll have to figure out how to play without outnumbering the enemies troops 5:1 somehow.

Hopefully they will still make it feasible to have a highly beligerent government, but I have to admit...fundamentalism always seemed like cheating.

As for me, because most of strategy games that came after civ2 were very disappointing (and I mean VERY
cwm33.gif
)...
So I take the Wait-and-buy stance.
Then I'll make comments.
But, I HOPE it would be as enjoyable as civ1 and 2.

<a href="http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3images/cgw4city.jpg">The beautiful city screen... now in correct angle!</a>

And below is a city screen 'annotated' by me. Items that end with "?" are my speculations.

let me know what you think and your speculations! <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif" border=0>

I agree with every single one that you have put down, except maybe the notepad feature. It could well be a notepad but it could also be a product of your wishful thinking

I dont't see a city view

let's hope that stupid feature is out the window.

1600x1200!?!?!? my monitor doesn't even support 800x600. although my computers too slow if i were to run it in 800x600. if anyone finds out the minimum requirements for civ3, email me at fry002@excite.com

Everything is on one screen at the same time. So you can see and manage hapiness, production, economic/scientific facts at the same time. I think that's an improvement over civ2 too.

Yes, i'm new

I think that the city view is good. But i agree with everyone that the other stuff look a lot like CTP. I think that SID should come up with a few more original ideas. I like civ3 but i hope it doesn't look like CTP.

This is my opinion, and you have to live with that

I think the <a href="http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3images/cgw2.gif">second screenshot</a> IS the city view screen... <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/cwm40.gif" border=0>
