Changing Font

you can change the interface font on your pc, and it'll change for civ (i think)

What do you mean, interface font?

In Windows you've got a different font for every item, all of which I've customized but that does not affect the civ font.

There is a font in the civ directory, I'm just wondering if it would screw up my game to delete it and replace it with something else (renamed to whatever the deleted font was)

I'm glad someone else has brought this up. I suggested it for Civ4, to make it an option, and got laughed out of the house...

The font file supplied in the Civ directory is just in case, I think. Windows includes this font in default settings. You can even delete the file in the civ folder, and it'll still run with Arial.

I tried replacing this file with my own font (Uncial Narrow, if memory serves) and it didn't change a thing in the game.

If anyone discovers how to actually do this, and succeeds IN GAME, I'd be grateful if they tell us!

As long as we're just floating ideas, I wonder if it's possible to change a Windows setting somewhere that civ relies on. I don't know. But I do know you can change the Browser font in Windows, and all your pages will show up in the new font.

Perhaps one of the settings in CP->Folder Options or some other setting could do it. Hm. I might go exploring...

Weird ... you'd think some people would appreciate being able to add a semi-calligraphic font for fantasy or imperialism mods or an old style typewriter font for WW2 mods, etc etc etc

I got a new computer recently, and the game appears to use a different font from the one it used on the old one. In particular, it seems to be slightly smaller, which means that I can squeeze more text into pedia entries. I'm having to be careful with this, in case it means that when other people look at my entries, they don't fit any more!

I don't know what the explanation for this is. The old computer was British and the new one is Asian, which probably has a lot to do with it.

you have to put a new font file (perhaps from: C:\WINDOWS\Fonts) into the conquests-folder and then you must rename this file into "LSANS"
at last you must nename some lines inside "LSANS" with the programm "font creator" i uploaded one example!!!:mischief:

Hi taube87,

this is a nice tutorial you wrote. :goodjob: It´s a pity that the shareware is only free for one month.

Did you find a way to alter the colour of the scripting in the boxes for the citynames on the map ??

i'm searching for another programm, i have the problem with the shareware version, too.

it's not possible to change the colour because programmes use the fonts like a stencil :(

Thank you taube87 for this useful information. Perhaps you should post your method(s) in the Creation & Customizations' Tutorials, Reference, & Guides thread to further enlighten others. Everyone in the Civ-Community will surely appreciate a tutorial of this kind. Great Work! :)

I tried that and it didn't work.

Definitely.

Uh, an afterthought is that I have not used "font creator" but if that's the way it's done, taube, you could be very helpful to us all by explaining what it is!.... I apolagize profusely, but I cannot read German very well. I'm OK with French, Swedish or Spanish though... ;0)
