Folks,

where can I change the amount of gold I have in a save game file? I am certain someone unclobbered the save files and this is documented somewhere, or is it not? I have some game with too much time now spent on it, and I got very, very unlucky. I would love to finish it, and that I will only be able to do with at least gold for a start.

Any pointers?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think that's possible, even on the PC side. Maybe you can give us some details to this game (civ/map/size/turns into the game) and what happened that was 'unlucky' and the position your in. There are a lot of ways to dig out of holes...

Heh, thanks for the offer. I was playing on Level 5 as Ghandi, and it was a bad start. I am probably not able to recover that game, but played too many hours and now he is attacking me after he asked me to go to war with someone he denounced 5 times. Right, the computer asks me to join in on a war with him, only to then denounce me and attack me two turns later.
Yeah, sure, I was killing a declaration of friendship, but he asked me for it.
Now I am toast, he is stronger.

So, yeah, dumb move. But I would have thought the AI to be less stupid.

Heh, in Level 5 I do not get it, the other players have like 5k Gold in turn 200 or so. I saw this twice now, this is ridiculous. What (hidden, internal) bonuses must the AIs get to have that?

umm...why dont you just go back and restart before you declared war? Gotta be easier than trying to hack into the code.

Are you trading resources and open borders to the AI? I always think of their gold as my gold, I just need to get them to give it to me.

Open borders with a Friendly civ will get you 50g, when they are Friendly and will only pay 43 you know they have had a negative diplo modifier with you. Doesn't mean they are attacking in a turn or two, just that you have caused a negative modifier. Too many cities, too much tech, too close.. etc.

Luxury resources go for 300 and you can get that from neutral. After the first couple of trades, they start to give less. If they don't have 300g, then use gpt to get the total up to 291g or so (141g+5/gpt for 30 turns).

AI will give 45/strat resource, so 5 horses will net 225g, same with iron. Don't really trade coal/aluminum/uranium/oil but I think they are the same. These are all on standard speed.

Nice one, tried that and it works really well. Not for that game I mentioned, but for another I just started.
Cool, thanks a lot, much appreciated!

Another gold tip. When you take over cities and make them puppets. One of your highest priorities is to get a worker, preferably 2, there to convert all the farm tiles to trading posts. Start on the rivers.

Puppets prioritize gold in assigning the citizens to work, and you DON'T want the puppets growing fast and overwhelming your happiness. So remove the food and add the gold. Make sure every luxury is developed, and strat resources... but get the farms converted to trading posts ASAP.

Well, is it that bad? I never (again) thought of it this way. They build the happiness buildings, but you have a point there. By all means, continue. :-)

It's a really significant difference. Food in puppets generates nothing, and extra population adds but a little science. These puppets will grow, you just really want to slow it down. Save the growth for your own cities, where you control production.

The fact that they prioritize gold makes this easy, and they will build money buildings (market/mint/bank etc.) early too. Just get those citizens off of farms in the puppets.
