Changing resolutions in Civ 3 Conquest - Keepres=1 not working

How do I do it? Ive tried the keepres=1 input to civilization3.ini file and conquest.ini file, when ive put the keepres=1 in there the game wont start. Any ideas why? My resolution is 1680-1050, and maybe theres another way to change the resolution? I remember when I played the game maybe half a year ago I was able to do something about the resolution, alas I cannot remember what I did.

I don't this 1680x1050 is supported. Can you do 1600x1200? AFAIK, these are the only allowed resolutions:
1024x768
1152x864
1280x1024
1600x1200
1792x1344

Has any explained the dif between adjusting the res in the keepres=1 way and going to the display options in Windows and setting up you res there. theres advanced properties options that makes the moniter only go with one specific res or default refresh rate, dIfferant moniters unlock differant option menus. Also one mode lets you set a res level and not let you go higher or lower in the normal menu, without unlocking it first. All kinds of technical stuff can be aplied to the display options from there.

I tried go to high with my res in game once. I was foolin around in those menus and It blacked out for good. I had to open safe mode and go back to the earliest choice I had before the screw up

That's kinda the same thing. Civ3 will force a resolution/refresh rate, and it's settable in the .ini file. If you have your .ini setting matching your desktop settings, then it keeps whatever settings you have on your desktop. But if you change those settings, Civ3 doesn't recognize that change and will change the monitor to whatever's in the .ini.

I'm surprised you had to boot to safe mode. Generally, windows will ask you if you want to keep the changes and if you don't answer it reverts back to the old settings for exactly that reason.

Ya I never thought of that Turner , What happened now Im tryin to think, it was my friends (cousin), a 19 4yearold flat. It was the First time seein Civ on a big screen so I tried to fiddle with a close up, then a high res.

I played with the controls on the actual Moniter to, but still I think it was activated from the display and as soon as the unobtainable res was selected there was just black and it said something about "check feed output 1" or something. There was another saying on screen mode two cause it didn't work ether, mybe its was screen 2 that said check feed output sorry Its a bit hazy.Anyway It was fixed when I turned cack the clock
