This is a very specific question, but what are the stats for the Chateau? I was intrigued by the preview which said that it has "special bonuses" for being near wonders. Are these wonder-specific or anything cool, or does it just boost the culture? Does it do anything besides give culture, like housing, or fort-like defense like in Civ V? I would check the civilopedia myself, but I can't until it comes out on Mac. Thanks!

The Chateau tile improvement is +1 culture (+2 culture if next to a wonder). They add +1 gold if next to a luxury. Must be built next to a river. Potentially most useful: they can be built on otherwise worthless riverside tiles, like tundra and snow.

3 culture is a lot too. It sounds underwhelming but it's pretty significant. I suspect it might be the strongest unique improvement, but it's still a bit early for me to say so with any confidence.

3 culture seems nice, but in fact its pretty much useless by the time the chateau can be built. Sure its more than most other unique improvement if you can meet all the requirements but in the end it comes way too late to mater.

I mean by the time you get humanism you're most likely will already have improved most of your tile, and your culture should come from theater square and great works (and city state bonus). And what you really want on the tile you work is food and production to help growth and keep pace with escalating production cost.

Unique tile improvement can be good in the very early game when you still don't have district and when bonus for tile improvement are not available (Ziggurat are awesome to kick start science). But once adjacency bonus for farms starts to kick in and you get lumber mills you don't want anything else on your ressource-less district-less wonder-less river tiles.

Interesting. Thanks for the replies. Are the bonuses stackable? Like, if it's adjacent to two wonders or two luxuries, will it get double the bonus?

They also give tourism then you research flight like all other improvement that give culture.

Culture is amongest the hardest resources to get which by itself mean 3 culture chateau is good and tourism is always valuable and chateau is a cheap way to get more tourism.

I was saving a tile for a Chateau my whole game, when the time to build it finally came a wild Nitre appears on the tile I was going to build a wonder, I had to use my precious Chateau tile as the new location for my wonder and my empire seriously lack good spots for Chateau.

It would be a boost to them if they did but they do help you to reach neighbourhoods quicker.

However they are pretty powerful given that they are basically a very spamable source of tourism.
