Cheaper Techs

I realize that some techs are made cheaper by first researching other techs -- however, the only ones that I know of are (I think) agriculture/animal husbandry and feudalism/civil service...

I'm quite sure there are others, but is there a list anywhere? If not, a way to find out (perhaps on the tech tree) would be useful. Any help is appreciated.

What "cheaper" means is that if you look at your research rate, and then look at the progress you make each turn, you'll see that you have some mysterious "extra" beakers that show up.

The only techs that are not "cheaper" are on the far left of the tech tree - ie the starting techs....

What may be closer to your question is "which techs have different research bonuses?" The answer there is any tech that has more than one optional requirement (when you look at the tech tree, the tech that shows up with the little symbol is the "required" tech, and the arrows are the optional techs).

Writing, for instance, has three optional techs - so there are three different research rates that you might experience when researching it, depending on how many of (Animal Husbandry, Pottery, Priesthood) you have discovered.

Look at the full tree not the in-game one. Hunting is the other prereq for Animal Husbandry. There are many others as well.

Interestingly enough, it only applies to immediate prereqs, not pre-prereqs. So say you have tech A and B are prereqs to tech C, which is leads to tech D. If you get tech C, the cost is static for D no matter if you have A, or B, or both A and B.

Somewhat on-topic:

I remember reading about tech being cheaper if any of the civilizations you have met already knows that tech.

So theoretically 1st line techs can be cheaper than what originally because of this rule?

Or was that proven wrong?
