Hello,
How do I activate cheat codes in civ4?
I changed the cheat parameter in XML, but when I push ~ in the game, nothing happens. There used to be a command console that comes up.

thanks

Result Command
Display debug menu [Ctrl] + D
Increase gold by 1,000 [Shift] + 4
Increase highlighted unit's strength by 0.2 [Shift] + ]
Decrease highlighted unit's strength by 0.2 [Shift] + [
Increase highlighted city's population by 1 [Shift] + [Plus]
Increase highlighted city's culture by 10 [Ctrl] + [Plus]
Instant production completion for highlighted city [Plus]
Level up highlighted unit [Ctrl] + [Plus]
Insert unit/city [Ctrl] + [Shift] + Left Mouse Button
World editor [Ctrl] + W

I know that, but how do I bring up the command terminal???????? When I push "~" nothing happens.

I am running warloards 2.08

thanks

Who needs cheat codes?

A) Press escape and there's the Worldbuilder option, which will let you do anything and

B) If you can't beat the game without cheats then there's no point in playing it.

Use the worldbuilder then if you're just looking to experiment. You can control -anything- with that. Unit promotions, techs, gold, cities, tile improvements, resource bonuses - the works.

There's an ini file in your Civilization 4 (and civ4\warlords) directory. Search for "Cheat", and replace the 0 with "chipotle". That will allow you to see the "Add units" popup menu (I'm not sure of the key-command offhand - haven't used it in awhile).

Also, the terminal is a very transparent gray-screen. Type help in it to see the commands.
(like app.crash :mischief: )

As said earlier, the Ultimate cheat is teh World Builder that can be accessed from the Menu in game. It can give you Nukes in the year 4000 BC!!!

i don't know of a way in WB to give money to another civ, only my own. if i want to give money to X to see how it helps him or what he does it, giving it to myself and gifting it to him messes up the rest of the test, since it impacts diplomacy. but i can do that with chipotle. maybe there's a way in WB, but i haven't found it.

select the others city, and you can change the money

that doesn't work for me. i can change everything else about their cities with "edit city", but the amount of money shown is always my own money, and any changes i make apply to my own money, and a spy placed in their city show me that the changes don't work for their budget. and if i give them a great merchant, even if i give it to them next to my capital and they live on another continent, they just keep it hanging around to start a golden age

The fallacies of AI. -rolls eyes-

Ahh, but as for your cheat codes. Well, if the console won't come up, it won't come up. Try editing your .exe, and add the -console arguement in the Target box.

If you want to give an AI money.. then give it to 'em. :p Give yourself the coin then gift it to 'em on the next turn.

for my purposes that didn't work! i was experimenting to watch how having money affects them; changes and/or speeds up their research, the rate they expand, etc. since gifting them money makes them like me, i couldn't do that, i wanted to stay out of the experiment. i actually started it before i'd met them. i put a spy in their capital and watched how they progessed, adding spies in other cities as needed, cheating in the name of science! i'm really interested in this experiment to watch the AI and the barbarians. yes i am an oddball . i laughed to find out that the barbs get emancipation unhappiness for example, i never knew!

so, i used chipotle, since it lets me actually change the total amount of money for any player by typing in their player number and the amount of gold. worldbuilder won't let me do that. the point was just to let people like you, who kept posting otherwise, know that there are some chipotle features that aren't in WB.

hehe i play LAN with my dorm mates and i can't wait to bs cheese my friend with nukes in 4000 bc. haha. of course it will have to be early on so they dont get pissed about wasting so many turns on a lost game :)

I tried doing the chipotle thing, but it doesn't work.
When I push ~ no menu comes up. I tried -console and it didn't work either.

When I push ESC no world builder shows up in the menu :(
Is it because I played with the passwords for the game? It says "debug tools" when I go to game details and type in the password, but when I check "debug tools" and close it, when I go back to it, it is turned off. So it doesn't save it.

What could it be? How can I get world builder back??

yes that's the problem, but I can't turn on debug tools. It keeps turning itself off when I come back.

Any ideas?

figured it out, check the "allow debug tools", remove the password (leave blank) and click ok. And don't play with that option :)
