Checking which techs advance era

Quick newbie question: is there a way to look up which technologies advance your civ to another era? That information doesn't appear on mouseover in the tech tree or in the Civilopedia. I seem to remember it being shown when you mouse over a tech among the various options presented to you when you complete a prior tech, but that means you can't plan ahead for techs you can't yet research, or check whether or not a tech will advance you after you select a tech from the prompt.

All techs do it. Whichever one from an era you get first, that is the one that advances you to that era.

Yeah, but there's no in-game reference of which techs belong to each era.

Is there any reference? Ingame or not? I have no problem alt-tabbing and reading something, I'm just trying to find some way to (for example) delay era advancement while I finish a quest.

Do a forum search if you care, people have listed each tech in every era.

I will pointedly not bother in this case because the reason involves events .

It's on the tech-tree poster that comes with Civ IV Complete...I couldn't seem to find a download reference-chart, though.

When you mouse over your next selection for research it should say at the bottom of the discription for each technology some say "advances to ______ era".

ahh. I still think you can open the research advisor and scroll over any of the tech's. I believe paper will adavance you and it says it at the bottom of the discription. I failed the horse whisper quest because I did paper and advanced an era.

Eh, doesn't work for me - do you have any mods loaded?

Sorry no mods loaded. I know it works when picked the next tech to research (only a few techs advance the era). I was guessing you could see it with the research advisor but I could be wrong on that.

I have prepared a tech tree which prints in b/w on a sheet of A4 paper, with the techs divided by era. I use this to keep track of what I and my opponents are researching, using coloured pins.
You advance when you research any tech in the next era.
If anybody wants a copy, PM me with your e-mail address (which I will not reveal) and I'll send you a copy as a .zip file.

Ah I feel sort of awed reading that; I've never thought of such meticulous keeping track of the tech progression.

Then again I've only just got to grips with Prince difficulty!
