Chicken Itza: What is the point?

Maybe it's just the difficulty level I play but my cites are just so seldom attacked that it doesn't pay.

Which are the other two? :king:

Shewadgon Paya. because I'm quite content with OR and Theocracy for most of the game.

The Great Wall. Not because it's useless but I prefer the Stonehenge, Oracle, Pyramids path and by then the Great Wall is usually taken.

actually the Sophia Haja ? ?? is the worse . 50% faster worker is lol

I like it...it's a beautiful building, and it gives GE points, something which is really hard to find in the early and mid game, but very useful.

Shwedagon Paya is pretty useless (OR, Theocracy and Pacifism are all very close to it) but TGW is one of my favorites, I usually build it first in all of my games.

If you build Shwedagon Paya, it should be with the purpose of switching to Free Religion IMO. 10% extra research and the happiness bonus from religion without taking a diplomatic hit with half the world can be pretty useful at that stage of the game.

The techs needed for the other religious civics are too close to the one needed for the wonder.

I sometimes build the thing to make sure no one else gets it, but otherwise, it's pretty useless.

If I have a GE with nothing else to do I will build it. That with Mt. Rushmore, and Kremlin is a game breaker for the AI

I build it sometimes when I'm industrious and have stone. I like to see an AI coming with two cats and starting to bomb your 125% defense 4% by 4%.

"Sitting Bull has reduced the defenses to 121 %"
"Sitting Bull has reduced the defenses to 117 %"
"Sitting Bull has reduced the defenses to 113 %"
"Sitting Bull has reduced the defenses to 109 %"
...

Meanwhile, you take his whole empire.

Agree. It can be useful to pick up, wouldn't go out the way with it. Like to have SoZ with it.

How about adding defence bonus against enemy spies for all cities from Chichen Itza? It would be like having stationed spy in every city until CI obsoletes. Or ~10% EP bonus to all cities?

There is no wonders affecting espionage currently and most of players agree that CI is not worth of its price.

I can reasonably consistently win Immortal (Diety still out of my league). But I typically go for domination, so my defenses consist of my swarms of units that laugh at any AI that would consider coming into my territory.

Im sure if you are going for a cultural victory on diety (laughing at the mere thought of this), chichenitza might be an excellent build.

What? Is this true? Can someone confirm? That would be like putting a hill under each city you own for defense, and 50% on hill cities. That's actually pretty good.

I just tested it, and this doesn't seem to be the case.

Sadly. That would have made Itza significantly stronger.

Two words: always war.

That extra bit of defence is worth it when you are, litteraly, surrounded by enemies on all fronts.

I'm quite sure Charlemagne approves of Chicken Itza. Perhaps the people at Itza Hut do too.

(Know it's off-topic, but have to acknowledge the "Itza-Hut" that made me choke on my soda )
Next, walls have never stopped or slowed a spy. The whole point of spies is to get inside walls.
Next, Chichen Itza may seem fine to pass up, but only if you don't intend to attack the owner; BUT:
Also have to consider whom amongst your rivals may attack or not attack as a result of your rival having it. Do they go after you instead of them? Are you a softer target?
The AI's not so bright, but I prefer to build it.

I have never built it.
1) My cities are rarely attacked.
2) There are better things to build.
3) I prefer pepperoni Itza

If someone moves into your territory with a stack, you do not want 4 longbows in each city. You'll want to meet him in the field. Although, I have to admit that another 25% on top of the 100% with a castle, when a catapult hit removes like 1.5% per hit...

Honestly though, you want a wonder that improves your economy or does something proactive, rather than making an assult difficult. The oppertunity cost of building a wonder is high, and you want to make sure that whatever effect it gives will pay off. And you don't want to be on the receiving end of an assult anyway. You'll still lose cities and have your improvements pillaged, which is no good. Besides, in higher difficulty, with stacks of 40+, it might not matter at all.

Don't insult the Angkor Wat. Philosophy to computers is like 3-quarters of the game. Consider Statue of Liberty and mercantilism.

But the Statue of Liberty gives +1 free specialist in every city IN ADDITION to the free specialist you'd get from Mercantilism. Statue of Liberty is extremely powerful and if you're philosophical, running Mercantilism AND have the Statue of Liberty you're gonna be popping out GP's at a ridiculous pace.

It's hard enough getting wonders on Emperor and I'm sure not gonna waste my forests on that one.

I got pretty good use out of Chichen Itza today, I had stone so it was only about 25 turns on marathon. I was bordered by Toku, Monty, Napoleon, and Shaka - thats probably a good situation to build it.
