A great fantasy series of books by Roger Zelazny.

Anyone ever read them?

Anyone like them?

I was listening to an unidentifiable AM talk radio last night when I heard that there could be a movie based on this.

Anyone else heard this?

Plenty of questions, and go ahead and comment!

Banal, inane and repetitive. Reminiscent of Piers Anthony or Terry Brooks, but with more mind-numbing boredom.

Bah - stuff and nonsense.

No-one can approach Brooks for derivative boredom.

Roger Zelazny is one of the GREATS.

Amber is one of the more original fantasy series.
It essentially falls into two halves - the original Seven Princes in Amber series and the Courts of Chaos. I preferred the latter.

Lord of Light is Zelazny's best though IMHO. His short stories too are outstanding esp "The door of his face, the lamps of his mouth"(?)

I think jpowers would compare the Beatles to Badfinger, and call the Beatles dirivative. It may not be Zelazny's best work, Lord of Light here also, but this is the original that Brooks cribs from.

Lord of Light was one of his best works. But he made the most money on Amber. I have most of them in first edition hardbacks that he was nice enough to sign. I had many late night drunken talks with him, and he was a riot. He is sorely missed in the SF community.

Now I AM envious.

I've always thought Zelazny one of the most underrated fantasy writers and one of the very best short story writers.
