Chronicles of the Iroqi War

Our road through the Sacred Jungle is complete! [party] Moved two workers (Banana Joe and Saeed) back up the road towards Iron. The remianing worker (Farhad) could not move.

Crown Prince Strider continues to guard the end of Military Road along with Kasra and Keresaspa. All three are veteran 4/4 immortals and all are fortified on a jungle tile. The Iroqi may have mounted warriors in range of Crown Prince Strider and his forces. If so, one may be a vet. If it attacks it has a 50% chance of killing one of our immortals and another 25% chance of withdrawing leaving us with a 50% chance of surviving the attack. If regular MWs attack the odds are 1/3, 1/3 and 1/3 giving us a 3/2 chance of surviving. (Note this does not factor in the incredible Iroqi luck.)

Baybak was dispatched by Crown Prince Strider to join Ardeshir on Mount Carbon Peroxides. Both are vet 4/4 immortals and Ardeshir is fortified.

Our four horsemen (vets Kaven and Majeed and regulars Hooman and Faris) rendezvoused one tile east of Fort Incendiary.

Here's the tactical situation:

As expected the Iroqi mounted warriors in the Sacred Jungle moved north. Majeed was the first to lead his horsemen into the plains:

The rest of the Iron horsemen followed but Majeed and his men were given the honor of first attack. The initial thrust was good inflicting a slight loss on the Iroqi GS 4th squad. Then the cursed Iroqi luck took over and Majeed fell. His men fought on bravely but could damage the 4th squad no more. Without Majeed in command there was no order to withdraw and so Majeed's band was wiped out.

Undaunted by the cursed Iroqi luck, Kaven lead his men against the 1st squad. Thanks to Kaven's skill the 1st squad was annihilated. Kaven's troopers suffered naught but a few minor scratches.

Hooman was next to send his men against the Iroqi 2nd squad. He and his command prevailed though they took slight casualties.

Faris finsihed off the battle with a flawless victory against the sole veteran Iroqi squad (the 3rd). Faris's men are now vets.

Babak and Ardeshir descended Mount Carbonperoxides to close the trap on the sole surviving squad of Iroqi:

By the way General donsig, on a personal note nice move on the last turn, i take my hat off to you. I look forward to more exciting battles with you in the near future.
General Robi D

Kia (4/4 vet immortal) attacked GS squad 4 (2/5 elite MW).
Kia lost 1 hp and was promoted. GS squad 4 KIA.

General Robi D:

I am sure we will meet again on the field of battle. Let us hope we do not grow too fond of war.

Excellent work around the military road. Now I do want to see a navy to take out any Gall expedition coming in from North.

Our forces are moving towards the terminus of Military Road. We currently have six immortals and three horsemen between Fort Incendiary and the terminex:

pulled a few units of the terminus of military road, just to confuse the nuts a little:

Our forces have fanned out as they begin their march towards the Iroqi heartland. Note the new Iroqi city named Powdered. Please see the Iroqi warplanning thread and help with our tactical planning!

Battlelog for Turn 83
Mounted Warrior WC3 (3/3) vs Horseman Hooman (3/3) Hooman killed, WC3 loses 0HP, promoted
Mounted Warrior WC1 (3/3) vs Horseman Kaven (4/4) Kaven killed, WC1 loses 1HP
Mounted Warrior WC4 (3/3) vs Horseman Hamru (4/4) Hamru killed, WC4 loses 1HP

I haven't seen the save yet so I can't post any screenshots but here's the bad news from down south. Since there were no mounted warriors adjacent to our valiant horsemen they could not have attacked and run - so these three Iroqi units must be sitting right next to our six immortals. We'll have one elite and two vets attacking at 4 versus 3 hp MW's defending at one. I guess they could have moved up more mounted warriors but that would be good. Attacking immortals should easily kill MWs on flat land. I'll try to get some screeenies posted in the pre-turn discussion thread in the morning.

EDIT: WC squads 2 and 4 were on Lookout Mountain. I suspect WC squads 1 and 3 were in the one tile forest.

three horses killed in a row?!

Yep, and guess what? We lost a vet (4/4) immortal attacking an unfortified 2/3 regular horseman! Hey, it gets better. We did not kill a single mounted warrior. We managed to get all three of them down to one hit point and then they all withdrew! Not only will these three units escape to heal up, our immortals are facing attacks by three full strength mounted warriors.

I should have sat one more turn till the other three horsemen arrived. But still the Iroqi luck is maddening. Any of you number crunchers out there care to go over the battle logs and calculate the odds of the outcomes?

Here's the official battle report sent to the nuts:

WS squad 1 lost 1 hp and was promoted.

Crown Prince Strider (4/4 vet immortal) attacked WS squad 1 (2/4 vet MW).
Crown Prince Strider lost 1 hp.
WS squad 1 lost 1 hp and withdrew 1 tile S.

Adeshir (4/4 vet immortal) attacked WS squad 3 (4/4 vet MW).
Adeshir lost 1 hp.
WS squad 3 lost 3 hp and withdrew 1 tile S.

General Robi D,

I'm sure there will be much celebrating in the Iroqi camps tonight. Whatever sacrifices you have made to your god of war (known by us as RNG) have been well worth it. Do your gods run back to your cities like those warriors of yours riding the infernal four legged beasts? No, don't bother to send an answer. We will see for ourselves soon enough.

Couldn't resist adding a little note. :D

 This is getting ridiculous! We need to find a way where we can really hit them back, because for all our losses, they are still alive! Maybe it is time we call in for MIA assistance... :hmm:

Last I checked, both MIA and KISS have weak armies compared to us. I don't think it's a good idea to ask the Greeks for military assistance. On the one hand we don't really want them over here and on the other hand it would send a message that we're worried.

I do think we either need to find tactics that can deal with the mounted warriors or we need to rethink our ultimate war aims. I think the latter route is what we need to focus on. We need to realize we are not going to wipe out TNT with one bold stroke. I doubt we can even conquer any of their cities any time soon. What we can do is keep the pressure on them while we continue to expand our borders and build our strength. We have to be prepared for a long, long war and it's time we thought seriously about our post-despotism government.

I guess calling for MIA won't really help, but we should definitely ask for some sort of longstanding sanctions. Maybe ask them to not trade with D'Nuts for 20 turns or so. We don't want D'Nuts getting any techs or gold. We also probably should start talking about our post-despot government, I agree with you on that.

One more thing: I really, really hope TNT is not wiped out in one bold stroke...sorry couldn't resist. ;)

Once Fort Carbonperoxides is settled we'll have a good view of the eastern jungle all the way to the coast. We should consider settling a city south of the jungle to capture the incense down there. That city would also help us to track the movements of the mounted warriors. We'd have to have a very strong garrison down there though.

We need more cities in the west as well, so we can screen our new core cities. We currently have no clue about what may be moving up in the west.

As for MIA, I think the best thing that they can do for us is agree to the long range tech swapping treaty. Is there anything you can do to move those negotiations along?

Could we move all of our units outside the first city 'powdered' and then sue for a peace treaty and demand it, then we can get a fair view of what there going to be doing at all times.

Battlelog for turn 84,
Mounted Warrior DS squad 4 (4/4) vs Immortal Keresaspa (4/4) ; Keresaspa killed, DS 4 loses 1HP
Mounted Warrior DS squad 3 (3/3) vs Immortal Crown Prince Strider (3/4) ; DS 3 killed, CPS loses 2HP (you actually won one)
Mounted Warrior WC squad 3 (1/3) vs Immortal Crown Prince Strider (1/4) ; CPS killed, WC 3 loses 0HP (obviously)
Mounted Warrior WC squad 2 (4/4) vs Immortal Kia (5/5) ; Kia killed, WC 2 loses 2HP.

Dear Grand Vizeer Donsig,
Grand Vizeer of Ironic and Iroqi people??? That a bit of a lofty title don't you think considering your all mighty army of doom hasn't
even gotten past our 1st line of defence, let alone our 2nd or 3rd lines. Maybe it was it was a mix up in the lines of communication,
you know one of those chinese whisper things, where the message starts off as "Send reinforcements, were going to advance" but by
the time it reaches its destination has changed to "Send beer and breathe mints, were going to a dance". Then again maybe if you
spent as much time training your troops as you do coming up with grandious titles for yourselfs they would know which way to point the
sharp end of their swords and spears.

EDIT: Here's the pic from turn 84:

Battlelog for Turn 85
Mounted Warrior DS squad4 (3/4) vs Immortal Babek (4/4) ; Babek loses 2HP, DS 4 loses 2HP and withdraws
Mounted Warrior WC squad3 (1/4) vs Horseman Theoden (4/4) ; Theoden killed, WC 3 loses 0HP and promoted

Mounted Warrior WC squad2 (2/4) vs Immortal Babek (2/4) ; Babek killed, WC 2 loses 0HP
Mounted Warrior WC squad4 (1/3) vs Horseman greekguy (3/3) ; greekguy killed WC 4 loses 0HP
I believe that makes the scoreline 10-1 for this battle so far.

All we have left in the south is two immortals and two horsemen guarding the terminus of military road. They will have to be moved back along the raod one tile for safety. We have a spearman and settler headed for Fort Carbonperoxides.
