I had a city that was up to a population of 20 and then fell to 1. As far as I can tell it wasn't unhealthy and all of the citizens were not specialists.
Any ideas on what could have caused it?

I had this happen to me on two costal cities... Both aquired through war...

What I think happens is that the game somehow makes the citizens stuck being specialists and end up with no one working the fields...

Then when it gets to 1 pop, there aren't enough food to pump out a 2nd person to work the fields...

I wanted to raze those two towns, but can't... The only thing you can do, is move all troops out, gift the land to a potential target before a war, and raze it once you declare war...

Still, they do a good job holding land if it isn't a dire need to have them produce... Just that the maintence suck...

The one I captured was also a capital... I think both of them were capitals...

They really need to put in a "raze city" option... Maybe balance it out with some :( faces around the neighboring cities for a few turns...

Not without more information, man... :D

Watch the forced specialists and the non working citizens on the city screen. For somereason, the govenor forces citizens away from work, and at present time I have no idea why.

Thanks I will check that.

I thought I had turned the govenor off. Micro management is my style.

I am pretty sure that if starvation depletes all your food, you lose population equal to food deficit minus food income.

In other words, if you're losing 7 food a turn, you have 4 food stored toward growth, and the little orange bar ticks below the line, you lose 3 people. I might be mistaken about this -- tell me if I am.

In general, you need one food to sustain and two to grow... A city with one pop will alawys grow because the town allows it with 2 food...

There is a glitch in the game where it made my cities stagnent after losing pop... It just dropped to 1... There really need to be a "starvation" warning or something...

Too late now to find out exactly what happened, but like I said, when first captured, they're all unwilling to work, and I think they're just specialists once the city got back to size... Not to mention the borders were limited to where they can work too, so evidently some folks have to die from the lack of food...

Still, by time I noticed it, the pop is 1 and the food is stagnent... Makes one wonder how the city got started in the first place???
