This forum already has a MULTIPLAYER section for Civ2. Since Civ2 does support this feature, there is no need for a single player tournament, as we also have the Civ2 GOTM. :yeah:

If you want to set up a Civ2 tournament, make it MULTIPLAYER and post in the appropriate forum. The original Civ2 tournament with a ladder system has been disbanded though, so I don´t think you´ll get enough players.

Challenging another player on the same map, but not playing multiplayer is rather irrational.

Play the GOTM instead, there you challenge not ONE but ALL other players on the same map.
Otherwise use MULTIPLAYER!
:D

Hey Lucky, can you be a little bit more harsh on the dude? :crazyeye: Firing squad at dawn, eh? It looks like the dude had good intentions (PS, remember that using CAPS makes it seem like you're "yelling" through cyberspace ;) ).

Ideas and suggestions are great, even if they eventually don't pan out. And you never know, someone else may not post the next great thing because they saw how someone else was jumped on.

That said, the GOTM probably is the best informal way for people to get together and play the same game file. But it still is not a "drop all the gloves and win" game like I assume a formal tourney would be.

My own input to a tourney organizer would be to talk to the pool of people who might want to participate and let some discussion about the format be used. I personally have no experience with it, but I'm sure there are some CivFanatics who do.

I'm assuming this is a SP game situation (if it's MP, I have no further comment since I have no MP experience). My most pressing initial input the the requirement to use 2.42. In fact, MGE or 2.42 should be possible, and maybe others with dual experience can comment about any significant advantages.

The other thing is the spectre of playing so many games, when I'll personally have time for mainly just the GOTM and an OCC each month, and maybe a little succession. I have not installed my Civ 3 yet, either.

The other obvious (at least to me) alternative winds up looking like the GOTM format (where many players play the same game). And it is my own preference not to let the Civ II GOTM die by migrating to other similar full blown (long) games.

2. If more than the 64(or 32) people sign up, each person who signed up will be sent a 4000 B.C. save game and the best GOTM scores will make the tournament field.

I don't want to put words in Matrix' mouth here, but it seems like if there is an actual "linkage" to the GOTM in some way, he ought to have a say ;).

The last initial thing I'd comment on is that many Civers simply would not play, because the would not want to get "crushed" by a "good" player. And believe it or not, probably some "good" players would not really enjoy hacking up on a relative newbie.

My personal preference is still for the GOTM format, but I'd be willing to keep an open mind for additional suggestions of Civ things to do :).

Who´s being harsh???
This guy just posted endless ideas and never followed any of them up till the end.

And only certain keywords as MULTIPLAYER and GOTM are in caps in my post above. Just to underline their importance in the whole post, not to simulate yelling.
The only thing one can argue about is the "irrational" comment.
But if you don´t like my way of posting, sorry, can´t help you with that. ;)

And do you really think it is appropriate to drag up many old threads and comment on my posts in several of them?
I´m sorry if I´m too impatient with some guys, but I can´t and/or won´t change that because you critized me. I have the highest respect for you and your achievements here, but nonetheless do I find your critizism becoming a bit offensive.
:D

..easy does it...:(

Hi Lucky,

And do you really think it is appropriate to drag up many old threads and comment on my posts in several of them?
I´m sorry if I´m too impatient with some guys, but I can´t and/or won´t change that because you critized me. I have the highest respect for you and your achievements here, but nonetheless do I find your critizism becoming a bit offensive.

Relax dude, all the threads since last October are new to me.

I'm only commenting on threads of about the last month or so in most cases, and I'm not attacking or criticising you. It probably seems sudden to you, since I've made about 80 posts in the last couple days. Only a very few are in reply to yours, and I think this one and another mention what seems to me a rather harsh. You can disregard, or listen, or whatever... The irony is that you're often right in terms of fact, like in this case, but and excited new poster with an idea probably feels more quashed than even you are with perceptions.

Well, I can see you're not only a good player (from your GOTM achievements), but a quick learner. I noticed several threads where you were right, in general, about what you were saying, but the way you told some of the newbies seemed to end their posting; you can feel free to post however you want, but since you are a well rounded player, the rather abrupt and final way you've answered some people can impact those what are just getting started at CFC.

PS, You really must not take offense, as none is intended. But try not to tune out what I'm trying to point out to you, because it really will help. The tenor you expressed is that of a moderator ;). Before I posted, I went back to check to make sure you were not listed as a mod; but even most mods aren't quite as curt with people making a serious suggestion :).

So relax, and smile :). BTW, Glad to meet you Lucky and Welcome (about 8 months delayed) to CivFanatics! :) :)
